I went to get my annual mammogram last week as I do every year. Radiology contacted me late last week because they needed to take more views. I went to my appt today. They did another mammogram because they had seen some spots on both breasts. After looking at the new views the radiologist decided to do an ultrasound. The spots they caught on the left breast were not seen today but they still saw one on the right breast. They found a cyst when they did the ultrasound. The doctor said that it looks benign and it is very small. He said no further views and/or treatment is needed and to continue doing self exams and the annual mammogram. I asked him if I needed a biopsy or to get the cyst aspirated to make sure it is negative. He said it was not necessary, that it is very small and they might not even find it later on. I left the hospital (this is a military facility). I am not really comfortable with his decision. What do you guys think?? I am thinking about calling my physician to discuss the findings and perharps push for a biopsy or more studies. How can he just say that it is ok just by looking at it? Thank you in advance for your ideas. :flowerforyou:

You can never be too safe! Alot of the times the spots are just fatty deposits, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to your physician!:flowerforyou:

if you're not comfortable then you should by all means talk with him again, either to push for further tests or to simply have him explain to you what the findings mean.

Absolutely seek a second opinion. Otherwise, you're going to stress out too much. Why put yourself through that? It could very well be the first doctor is right and nothing to worry with. But....you will not be satisfied until you know for sure.

    SECOND AND THIRD OPINION!!
My friend is now suing several doctors because (following 2 surgeries, several scans, x-rays, exams, trips to specialists) they all failed to notice the first doctor left a piece of equipment in her during a surgery one year ago which has now left her unable to have children.
They won't get sicker if it goes unchecked or treated. It's your body!!!!

definitley get a second opinion - what maybe be nothing now could be something 20 years from now.

what concerns me is "it looks benign :noway: how would he know just by looking at it. - and if you are not comfortable with what he is saying - you need to make an appt with your Physician.

I'm sure the hosiptal will send the results to your primary Physician and I would defiitley follow up

Please get a second opinion. One of my friends went to her Dr. when she was pregnant because she had found a lump. He shrugged it off as something to do with the pregnancy. She returned when the bump got larger and more appeared. He again told her it was nothing and to stop worrying. Eventually after fighting with her insurance company to force them to let her go to someone else she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She had to begin chemo during her final weeks of pregnancy (the baby was born happy and healthy thank goodness!!) and is getting ready to undergo a mastectomy.

If you have any doubts then insist on seeing someone else. You can never be too careful.

Do you have a family history of cysts, fibroids, or breast cancer in your family? If so, then DEFINITELY get it taken care of. It can't hurt to have it biopsied. If for no other reason than just your state of mind and well-being. The worrying alone can cause undo stress and can cause other health issues. How soon is your physician saying about reevaluating it? If you tell him/her about the undo stress that it causes you, then any good doctor will help to ease your mind by running additional tests. Hope it works out for you. Keep us updated!

For sure, get checked again! I've heard of people finding things on their own, and the docs say that nothing is there when there is.

It wouldn't hurt to get another opinion at all, they 're not paying for it. I'm very surprised that people such as doctors tell others oh there is nothing to worry about, let it be. Forget that .just do it. NIKE taught me that. :-)

I rather be safe then sorry.

I was scared when I felt a lump in my breast. I got two opinions. Both said the same thing; that it was nothing to worry about. But they both also gave me an option. They said, in a month if it changed, got bigger or moved, to come right in. It disapeared. Both doctors told me to lower my intake of cafeine (I already don't drink that much) I don't drink coffee, so that is a plus. I didn't drink any soda for 2 1/2 weeks and the lump went away. They assured me that there was a slight chance that it could go away. If it didn't they would be able to drain it.

So another opinion may put you mind at ease.

GET A SECOND OPINION!!!!! It may be nothing, but it can't hurt to be 100% sure. Doctors are human and can be wrong. Breast cancer is very curable if caught early. GET A SECOND OPINION!

Thank you so much to all of you who responded. I am calling tomorrow to schedule another appt. No, I am not happy with just "it looks benign, come back in a year" HELLOOOOOOO!!!!! I told him I've had two breast biopsies in the past. They were both negative but they did biopsies to be sure. It was at another military hospital many years ago. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She did not need chemotherapy, just radiation therapy. She is having her follow up mammogram next month. I told this to this doctor, he was the radiologist. :noway: I will keep you updated. Thanks again!!! :flowerforyou:
