The whole clean eaters vs. IIFYM peeps is just silly.

Most IIFYM peeps eat mostly foods clean eaters would consider clean and clean eaters admit that a few strays off the path every now and then aren't going to wreck you. THEREFORE WE'RE BOTH SAYING THE SAME EFFING THING!!! Just arguing over semantics.

The battles over stuff that doesn't matter does nothing to help the clueless who at usually playcate to whichever side shows up in greater numbers first or argues harder or to their current bias before asking a question.

If you actually eat like either you've already "made it" and by made it I mean gotten to the point where you know what the good choices are and are empowered to make the decisions youself. You've become accountable for what you eat.

I totally agree. I've also said this a couple of times and was ignored and/or failed to be clear.

I've been saying for awhile now that what we need to do is in 50 years lets all get back together and see who is still alive, who lives independently, who can still walk up stair, who can use the bathroom independently, or who has out of control diabetes, who lives in a nursing home, who cant even get out of his/her hover round, and who cant change his/her own diaper.

Who ever is the healthiest will be crowned the MFP wiener!

The trouble comes from the extremes, those who promote irrational fears of certain foods, and those who take ridiculous license to eat unhealthy.

I'll fight about anything. I did debate in High School.

A lot of my fellow atheists complain about how so many Christians try to proselytize but not me. I invite Jehovah's witnesses into my home and make them lemonade.

"I couldn't disagree with you more. How lovely. Please have a seat."

    I don't know.

    Maybe I was raised wrong.

^This. Particularly the 'clean eaters' that try to sell you shakes. lolwut?

I find it funny when the extremist 'clean eaters' fight with themselves over which foods are 'clean'.

yeah, up until a few years ago I had no idea dairy and legumes had targets on their backs for any reason other than moral.

I agree. So many people think IIFYM means eating nothing but junk "so long as it fits your macros".... well try as one might, it's impossible to make eating nothing but McDonalds and takeaway pizza all day fit my macros..... I can fit the occasional McDonalds or slice of pizza in every now and then, I can fit some chocolate in every day, but unless I'm also eating a lot of very healthy, well planned, high protein meals the rest of the time..... it isn't going to fit my macros!!

Completely agree, and the funny thing is even though it is presented as for weight loss, the fight usually lies in health, not the scale. I believe the difference is a lot of hard core clean eaters do not want to ingest all the toxins and chemicals and crap that is in our food supply, but on the same token I am sure a lot do splurge every now and again, so no matter what everyone most likely eats in moderation.

I think it also lies in daily moderation or once every now and again treats.

Bottom line, I don't see the need to fight over it. I eat clean but I don't obsess over it. I still have treats that aren't the greatest from time to time, but I am striving to have healthy alternatives to those things, but I also have some medical conditions that do limit some things for me :( And I am just the type that I find more structure is more successful for me. But that is me, that doesn't mean everyone. I can't even say how many threads I have seen the past fews days with everyone spewing that their way is better than another. I have friends following all different eating approaches and don't love any of them any less because they don't do what I do.

I really think people need to stop being so close minded on both sides of the fence, you will never know EVERYTHING, just because a eating style is working for you doesn't mean your way is the only way. There are a lot of people on here strictly to just lose weight, others are here for health and others are here for both. I think most things are easily clarified by using common sense, and unless you have walked to the other side and tried that approach, you have no idea if it works or not.

everyone should be open to learning new things and seeing there are multiple ways to be successful. I don't even classify myself as a clean eater or a pescatarian, I do follow their styles a lot, but I eat to live, bottom line. I don't need a "title" or type of diet to justify my eating. I eat what I do cuz I enjoy it and everyone should do the same :flowerforyou:

The reality is that the majority of people who subscribe to flexible dieting are eating a diet that is nutrient dense, the bulk of which comes from foods that would typically get labeled as "clean".

IIFYM/flexible dieting happens to be a pretty gigantic magnet for strawmen.

The majority of the time that someone has an argument against it, the argument is against their misunderstanding of it.
