I try and stick to clean eating as much as possible but I can't go without dairy. I don't eat a lot of it, but I enjoy natural yogurt and milk in my tea.
I definitely feel better staying away from grains, and processed foods.0 -
I have done it but found that for me, clean eating is a better option. More flexibility, more choices and I find that having a small amount of grains helps my food stick with me longer. However, what I can say is some paleo folk allow dairy as long as it is full fat and straight from the cow basically. Check out Civilized Caveman Cooking and Nom Nom Paleo for some fantastic Paleo recipes. Both of the authors of those sites have amazing recipes that are pretty easy to prepare. One of my favorite is BOARS chicken from the Civilized Caveman.
Good luck in your Ancestral Diet!0 -

I just finished day 2 of eating paleo. I can't say whether I'll want to eat this way forever, but so far so good. I haven't felt too hungry and I'm down 2 pounds already. If you're gonna give it a try, feel free to friend me0

I have been doing that, it's really hard for me to cut out dairy, maybe milk but cheese I at least want a table spoon haha0

lol my thoughts exactly -.-0 -
Not too familiar with paleo but if it's the diet where you cut out all carbs then H no.0

Nom Nom Paleo is a great website.
I have all the stuff for the Paleo diet and i'm like you with dairy. Like right now i'm drinking coffee with milk. I'm slowly cutting back on dairy. I love yogurt and I hardly have any. I do add sour cream or greek yogurt and cheese to my bake potato. Can't eat a bake potato without it. I love sweet potato too so i'm slowly trying not to eat any white potatoes. I didn't just jump right into it. I'm doing it slowly. I know I will never give up milk in my coffee but I can go without yogurt and I don't crave it like I used to. But I love bake potatoes so that one might take awhile:) good luck and there are some great recipes out there.0 -
It's great!
It's just extremely limiting and therefore hard to adhere to.
And some may even say unnecessary.0 -
The principle of sticking to mostly unprocessed foods is great, but there is no need to exclude food choices that you enjoy from your life, for any reason (unless you're allergic). Because in 2013 we now know that no food is truly "unhealthy." If you count your calories and macros like I assume everyone on this website must... Then there is no reason to follow any such exclusion diet.0

There isn't complete consensus on whether diary should be eliminated or simply moderated - I have seen websites where consumption of cultured diary products is stated to be fine, others disagree.
You could simply use it as a convenient framework to organise your eating - concentrate on high quality protein, fat and carb sources (good cuts of meat, fresh veg, fruit, nuts etc) and then introduce other items to see how you feel and react- starchy carbs, more diary etc.
It doesn't have to be an all or nothing proposition no matter what people on either side of the argument say;)0 -
I'm a big fan of eating yummy things like peanuts and cheese and bread. I am not a fan of setting up random parameters for my lifestyle that have nothing to do with self-improvement. So no, never tried it, never will.0

I've tried it, and still follow a mostly paleo diet, but I eat dairy, chickpeas and my new favourite, mung bean noodles....I use my common sense. I avoid eating processed foods, eat lots of fresh fruit and veg, meat, etc. I sometimes eat rice. I've found personally having IBS that not having grains/gluten works well for me, but Im fine with dairy and enjoy it, so I eat it. I think paleo can be good at 'cleaning up' your diet, encouraging you to eat better foods, but I dont think you need to be dogmatic about it. Eat good foods that work for you. Feed your body well, dont be overly restrictive with macros and calories.
Just to add paleo doesnt have to be low carb. You can still eat plenty of carbs (sweet potatos etc).0 -
I eat somewhat Paleo... but for me it's a lifestyle choice, not going for a diet. So I'm making the transition slowly and over the course of the year. I eat a lot of fruit, veggies and meat. For snacks, I've had nuts and made dried fruit and nut "energy" bars. The key is not to think of it as all or nothing. Everyone seems to do it a little different, and allow different things. I do some dairy, some grains, lentils, etc. I'm just a little more careful about it now. Like mentioned above, it's great for cleaning up your diet.
Regarding the comment that there is no reason to cut food out - from what I read, a lot of it has to do with the foods that have GMO's in it or even gluten. If anyone is interested the book "Practical Paleo" is great. Has recipes and meal plans. Also if your on Facebook, I highly recommend liking "Primal Bliss" - she has a great blog, and "Just Eat Real Food" - they have some awesome recipes and post good info on a regular basis.0 -
It's really restricting. You can only use certain oil, no dairy, grain, and processed food, etc. (it's harder as a college student too).
I haven't tried it myself yet, I want to though. But I'm not really ready to give up dairy, cuz I like cereal, oatmeal (tastes better with milk than water), I use butter for my eggs, etc. And there's other stuff that I'm not ready to give up. I'm doing fine so far, so I don't think it's necessary for me. And yes, it's a lifestyle, not a diet, it's something to stick to if you're willing to do it, such as being vegetarian.0 -
Dairy is only for baby mammals, and you don't look like a baby mammal0

I'm vegan and I haven't had dairy in four months, I feel much much better. Many people also have dairy allergies and lactose intolerance. Dairy isn't necessary in any diet. There are plenty of other sources of calcium.0 -
I've looked into it before and there are somethings I agree with and others that I don't. My diet I've been focusing on is fresh seasonal fruits and veggies, whole grains and legumes, nuts and seeds and I do eat some dairy (soy milk and greek yogurt) and eggs. I don't eat meat unless I know where and how it's been produced and I eat fish sparingly, again I like to know where it comes from or who caught it. Also processed foods are pretty much out although there are some brands I trust for chips and that sort of thing. With the Paleo diet from what I understand, you do not include dairy, processed foods, refined sugars or cereal grains and legumes in your diet. So I think the only thing I would have a problem with is the grains and legumes ( I think I could handle taking out diary completely as we can get calcium and other essential vitamins for bone growth from other plant sources) but with that, I do not have an intolerance towards gluten so if you do then it might not be a bad choice to take those out to start with and then move towards the other changes. Although the point of the Paleo diet that I am seeing is to just be smart about your food, bring it closer to nature and get away from the processed foods and hormone induced meats that are predominant today..
I want to add that whether you decide to start the Paleo diet or not, eating fruits and vegetables seasonally (i.e, when they are naturally grown not just available in the grocery stores) and locally grown is very beneficial and is probably recommended in the Paleo diet as they didn't have bananas in December i'm guessing. You reduce the exposure to pesticides and increase the amount of nutrients available in the foods. Foods that have to travel a long way or even several miles to get to your dinner plate lose nutrients in transportation, the way they are preserved for transport and of course from the amount of chemicals added to them. Hope this information and personal experience helps in your decision :]0 -
I eat Primal (Paleo with dairy) I have eaten this way for 6-8 months and I love it. I can't see me ever going back to grains, and I have to keep my carbs very, very low anyway as I am diabetic. I do think it's a little easier here in the UK as most if not all of our meat is grass fed anyway. Good luck with this way of eating, it's fab.0

your suppose to get your carbs from fruits and veggies but it does cut out grains0
-
Thanks I think I may do that just to try it out besides either way it's healthy0

I eat mostly Paleo primal.0

Eh, give it a try it cant kill you (unless all you are eating is chicken and broccoli, shudders), but eventually youll want to adopt that dreaded diet of balance, moderation and portion control.0
