Some of you know that this past week I have spent a great deal of time and effort into my fundraiser "spinning to fight children's cancer". I have posted a good deal about this on my newsfeed , but I would like to post this on the forum for the entire MFP community. Please read on and please consider donating.

A spin/cycle class is a class offered at many health clubs. A class is a hour long with moderate to heavy effort on a spin bike. An average spin class is the equivalent of biking 13-15 miles outdoors. This spin bike has a resistance lever with 23 gears to help simulate various degrees of climbing. This combined with 3 or 4 minute sprints results in a great cardio workout. My fundraiser was to take every spin class in a week that is offered at my gym. There are 19 spin classes in a week at my gym. I have completed 18 of the 19 with the last one being this morning. I have burned over 16000 calories so far this week. You can see what I mean by time and effort. Over 16k calories burned, an equivalent of around 300 miles biked and by days end I will have been pedaling away for a little over 19 hours this week.

All the funds I am raising will be donated to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. I have to this point raised $1280.00 dollars with my goal being $1500.00 and hopefully much more.

A few facts about peridatric cancer:

Did you know?

One in every 330 Americans develops cancer before the age of twenty.

On the average, 36 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer everyday in the United States.

On the average, one in every four elementary schools has a child with cancer. The average high school has two students who are current or former cancer patients.

Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 in the United States.

Childhood cancers affect more potential patient-years of life than any other cancer except breast and lung cancer.

The causes of most childhood cancers are unknown. At present, childhood cancer cannot be prevented.

Childhood cancer occurs regularly, randomly and spares no ethnic group, socioeconomic class, or geographic region. In the United States, the incidence of cancer among adolescents and young adults is increasing at a greater rate than any other age group, except those over 65 years.

Despite these facts, childhood cancer research is vastly and consistently underfunded.

I would also like to share a post left for me by a friend on a fitness website that I'm a user on.

"WTG! It makes me smile everytime I read your newsfeed re: this endeavor. Such a committment and a positive way to help kids with cancer. I had a very special patient who wanted nothing more then to ride her bike she'd just gotten her training wheels off, but her counts were low and she cried and bargained "but if I have my transfusion and wear a helmet and do TWO shots [of neupogen] then can i?" Imagine a 5 year old VOLUNTEERING for extra pokes so she could ride her bike? You're pedaling for all those kiddos that can't. This little girl just celebrated her 9th birthday and the treatment that cured her was developed by the research done at places like St Judes, St Baldricks and in association with C.O.G."

What a story!!!!! If you have not donated, please do consider donating. Let's give other kids the chance to ride that bike and let's give kids battling cancer the chance to live a long life.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and I do hope that can donate something. Every dollar helps.

Happy Easter!

You really think throwing more money at it will 'cure' anything? Cancer is more than a billion dollar a year industry... there is no profit in healthy people. Allopathic medicine is TERRIBLE. Eat proper , dont vaccine and get exercise - that is your cure

Stay in nature and out of the lab and you will be safe. I have not been to the doctors in 7 years thankfully and I have never been healthier. Cancer industry is a massive fraud. along with HIV scam.. and many other westernized medical 'problems' that are easily reversible.

spew all your hate at me.. I love it. I know whats true and whats a fairy tale.

You're partially correct and partially wrong but still free to express your opinion. Funny how you don't know one thing about me but will just assume that I will spew hate at you. That in itself tells me a good deal about you. Too bad for you. :)

I won't argue that eating proper, getting exercise and staying in nature will greatly decrease your odds of getting cancer. If you think that just because you do all of that you have no chance of getting cancer than I have bad news for you.

If you think there have not be major advances in modern medicine towards the cure for cancer than you're badly mistaken. You keep going along thinking you KNOW it all! You may know some of the facts but not all. At least I don't pretend to know it all. I will continue to do what I think is good. Have a good day.

19 spin class done, about the equivalent of 300 miles rode, made many new friends, doing this for a great cause and it was lots of fun!!

Total calores burned:**** Heart rate monitor total for the 20 hours of spinning. 18153 cals burned(includes any warmup and/or cool down period. Subtract 10% since I would be burnng calories anyway even If I was not exercising. -1815 Net total calories burned - 16338

You can still donate: Please, help me out. $1340.00 raised and my goal is $1500.00 Let's get there.*********** http://www.youcaring.com/other/Spinning-Against-Childrens-Cancer/44926
