Running (Beginner)

Hi all!
I did it...I got fitted for a pair of good stability running shoes!! Eeeeek I'm scared to start my running program because I know I am going to be hurting. I am also very excited to start running! Everyday I see all of these runners everywhere and think to myself one day that will be me!!
My question is....should I be eating something specific before and after my runs?
Any other advise is much appreciated!

I don't have much in the way of eating advice . . . just replace carbs after burning them, but thats for any kind of exercise. But I do love love to jog! I started when I was about 23 or so and lost about 60 lbs in a year. My only real advice is don't worry about what others think, enjoy it and do it for you and the goals you set! So rewarding and a great form of exercise!0

No specific advice, but check the nike+ website for runners. there's a trainer on there that answers questions for runners.0

Unless you are running/training for a marathon or half marathon, you don't really need to carb load. I find that I like to have time to digest before I run. Otherwise I end up burping the whole way! LOL And make sure you hydrate when you get home. Water, water, water!!!! Good luck babe!0

I still consider myself a beginning runner and I don't eat anything special beforehand. I usually run in the morning since its cooler and there are less bugs to eat (!!!) and I only eat something - small bagel with a little smear - when I plan on doing more then 2 miles. Otherwise I just drink some water and get out the door.

You'll love it soon enough, the hurting is only a little niggle once you see what you can achieve (and as a bonus you get the fresh air and the house snooping that I love as part of my outings!!). As they've said before me - don't mind abuot how you look, just enjoy it - seriously no one else is looking at you, they're too busy trying to get themselves around their course too!
I don't eat before I run as I find it upsets my stomach or I get a stitch (as I run early), so I just drink a small amount of water before I go running, and then when I am running (if it's v hot) or as soon as I get back I drink about a pint of water and have my breakfast - it's even more lovely when I have run!
I usually make sure I eat a lot of protein daily (within suggested bounds but only just!) as I like the work it does for my muscles, I find I rarely have muscle issues (touch wood) despite doing exercise every day - and I like to credit the protein with a bit of that!!

i just started running 1 1/2 years ago and i love it, I try to do 5K's once a month,which keeps me running so i do ok on the races. Its a fun thing to do and I hope to keep it up as long as my body will let me. Good Luck!!! and enjoy0

I also am a beginner (although I started the first time about 2 years ago)- Until about 1.5 mths ago it was all treadmill and I find outdoors to be much more rewarding. It is still HARD and I still have to DRAG myself out. Its been so humid here and so hot (100 degrees and completely saturated air yesterday) its been impossible to be outdoors.
My advice is take it slow, when you try to go to fast or too long too soon you drain yourself and give up if you feel like you failed. Take it one bite and one day at a time.
I use dailymile.com to track routes and runs so I know how long I ran then plot my route (before or after but I do after) to determine speed,etc.
Its nice to not have a set route and come home the first few times being surprised as to how far you ran!0
