Autism Speaks NEPA 2013 Walk... Anyone from NEPA?

For the last 3 years my family has always helped to raise funds for the NEPA Autism Speaks walk. It is held in Blakeslee, PA normally around the end of August.

In 2012 our team was one of the highest teams for funds raised and I'm looking to go bigger and better in 2013. Not only will I be getting myself healthy and fit for the walk, but I've made it a goal to raise more money this year to help Autism Speaks.

My own son has Autism and I know what it is like to struggle with therapy, IEPs at the school, case managers, medication and for me I have a lot of good support. Without getting into the politics of it all more children are being diagnosed with Autism everyday yet funding for their much needed programs have been cut dramatically.

I didn't mean for this post to sound like anything other then information about me and why I walk, so please don't read into it more then that.

What I want to know is......

1) is there anyone else in the NEPA area that would like to join my team?

2) what is your cause of choice and do you participate in any walks?

  • Thought I should at least provide the site for my walk motivation.

  • I am from NEPA! I don't get to do many charity walks, but I am always looking to meet new people and this might be something I am interested in. I will visit your link later and let you know. :)

Im not from your area (or country) but want to wish you all the best, what a great cause!! Well done for getting out there and doing something :D
  • Autism Speaks has not gone international yet, that I know of but I'm sure there are similar programs out there. Autism isn't a United States only problem.
Thank you for stopping by and taking a look. Even if all I can do is get myself fit to be a better support for my children and raise a little awareness along the way then I have been successful.
  • That is great news. Feel free to friend me here. Blakeslee is about an hr away from me so I won't be out that way until the actual walk, but I'd love to have people join the team from ANYWHERE.
I think it could be a great motivation to get fit and then meet at the walk to raise money for such a good cause.
  • To get me started I've been using a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df2gn6-w0dE

This is a walk at home 1 mile walk. I do it 2-3 times a week, but will be moving to outdoor walks as the weather here in NEPA continues to get better.
  • Just totaled up my funds raised so far and we are at just slightly over $3000.00 That is great news. Thank you to everyone who helped.
