Headphones for Runners?

I really like to listen to music when I run and nothing else, in other words I don't want to be able to hear the screaming children in the cardio section of my gym! Currently I'm using ear buds because they are the best at blocking out the noise but they tend to fall out when I run. Any suggestions for "over the head" style headphones that would be good while running? Any direction is much appreciated!

I have these and I love them! You should definitely check them out. I had been using the ear bud style but they always drove me crazy because they wouldn't stay put in my ears. These don't budge!

    I use this:

The biggest advantage is NO hanging cable... And you can skip, shuffle, adjust the volume from these little things in your ear.

P.-S. and I hold it secure by having my Nike headband sit at the top of my ears or when it's cold, right on the little gizmo.
  • I like these loop style headphones:

They don't fall off and the sound is decent. And they're pretty cheap so when you lose them or eventually break them, it's not a big deal. I can't stand the ear bud style.

Great question! I run outside, so I DON'T want complete sound cancelling, but I do want good sound. I've tried the "around the ear" ones before for $20 or so and they did work. Be nice to have something better, but I do have three teens, so I will only see them once, regardless! LOL

In the gym; tune in and tune out, totally! https://yurbuds.com/ those are rated well.

If you do go outside though, please consider either no tunes, or only tunes in one ear (the one away from traffic).

I used to be a big fan of running with tunes and just tuning out the world. I could still hear enough around me to feel "comfortable". It only takes one "almost hit" situation though before "comfortable" becomes "really stupid". One headphone still gives you the tunes you want and you can hear things around you.

Side note. When I started triathlons I was annoyed that all headphones were banned, but that didn't change the rule. When I started running in the trails, I realized that tunes were just a distraction from my body and the world around me. Now I still run with tunes in the gym (both ears, pumping hard), and I'll run with tunes on the road (one ear, loud enough to hear), but I won't have tunes if I'm running with friends (anywhere) or in the trails.

    Run hard.

^ Good points for safety. Maybe my cheapies are the best bet...the don't get too loud, don't have much bass, and I could still hear the police sires coming through an intersection I had to cross yesterday, so I knew to stop and wait.
