a) Mazda3
b) Dodge Dart
c) Ford Focus
d) Hyundai Elantra

Background:
I'm a chick. I can barely drive an automatic, never mind a stick. I'll be sharing the car with my boyfriend who is a guy and likes fast cars. We'll be living in the Houston, TX area.

    Out of those four, I would suggest the Ford Focus or Mazda 3. I hate Hyundai, sorry!!

    Mazda is a horrible car.

    I suggest go with dodge or ford. cheap car parts

    I would have to agree with Fusion. I have one and love it...super speedy. But, Focus would be good too.

    As a ravenous car fanatic who used to deliver cars from one place to another (for rentals).. none of these. Ford is possibly the worst- for all the American hoo-ha over it, that brand has the most problems. Hyundai (a sh*** foreign brand..) is a second and Dodge is an easy third (Dodge is notorious for never fixing certain problems). Mazda, although Ford has 3% in it, is the lesser of the evils.

    Have you considered a Honda Civic? A Kia Soul? Anything Toyota or Chevy (which is in the top 5 the last few years.. and my top choices from experience, alone.)

    But, I can understand that you like what you like.

    The ford or Mazda will be sporty-ish drives. The dodge dart is the same old chrysler garbage as always...especially bad if you are leasing, it will depreciate more than the others. The Mazda is really the best bet.

    Dodge Dart of all of those. My father delivered cars for years and never had anything nice to say about important. Its all preference though. The simple thing to do would be go car shopping and test drive the cars with him.

    Oh and there is nothing to driving a stick. I learned to drive by taking the car to work I had a standard neon... much more fun to drive then an automatic. Total control over the engine so its really safer in the snow. You can always learn to drive manual!

    Unless the Focus is the svt, and the dart is the srt 4? ( I really don't know the performance models of the imports ) the bold part invalidates your list.

    The brand nationality has less and less to do with where it is made. The most "American" car is a Toyota Camry.

    Did consider the Honda Civic and the Chevy Cruze, but boyfriend isn't into it and both are slightly more expensive than the ones I listed. I didn't bother with Kia. I forget why Toyota was eliminated from our list.

    Boyfriend tried to teach me and I didn't have much success. I'd be willing to try to learn again, but wouldn't feel comfortable rushing into it with a new car. I really have close to 0 driving experience and may need to drive for work.

    Yeah well, I'm the one paying for it so I don't really care. Especially since his main concern is what it looks like... My point is the car will be used by both of us, so I don't necessarily just want the best car for me, I want the best one for both of us.

    I'd love for him to test drive them with me, but he's out of the country and I don't have a car to get me to a dealership. Going to try to get a friend to take me, but we're all busy with college and I'd feel bad wasting their time. BF and I will have a few days to shop around while we rent a car.

    The new Dodge Dart Is pretty sweet, and it comes nicely equipped for < 20K (Dart Aero or Limited version) . Given the choices, I'd pick that one.

    Thanks for your input. The Dodge Dart is probably our current favorite. I'll keep that in mind.

    I have a Mazda 6 sport wagon and I love it!

    My son has a Mazda 3 Hatchback and loves it as well.

    If I were to part with my 6 it would only be to get the better mileage on the 3. I think they are sharp!

    I'd say the Mazda 3 or the Focus, since they're essentially the same car. I'm a Ford girl. I had an 01 Focus that I drove for 8 years until about a month ago and I changed to a '12 Fiesta (Mazda 2)- Love the gas mileage and that it's a bit sportier than my Focus was. The new Fiesta is about the same size as the old Focus but I love the new body style of the new Focus.

    Go with the Fusion. My best friend just got a Focus a month ago and it's spent more time in the shop than at her place. She's regretting not getting the Fusion she had her eyes on.

    Subaru Impreza would be a good car to fit both of you. But out of the 4 you chose, I'd suggest the Focus. It's the best quality for the price.
