~Whey protein~

I see a ton of people on MFP mixing their whey protein with almond milk and just out of curiosity, I wonder why that is? I myself mix my protein powder with almond milk because I can't have casein (milk protein). Of course this means I don't use whey because it's milk protein. So if whey is a milk product, why don't people just go ahead and mix it with milk? Is it because almond milk has more calcium than cow's milk or because unsweetened almond milk has no sugar and very few calories? It's not because people are avoiding milk, right? Someone plz respond so the mystery can be solved! :drinker:
unsweetened almond milk has 0 carbs, so its an advantage to the low carbers, too. :-)
I don't mix mine with milk because cow's milk has a ton of androgenic hormone variations in it and whenever I start having a lot of milk I get oily and get more acne. Whey is filtered and micronized and only has the IGF-1 factors like milk does and crude protein content. Almond milk also doesn't have 12g of sugar per 8oz (lactose) like milk does, and the unsweetened is 30 calories per 8oz compared to 90 calories for skim milk.0 -

Can I use it like a protein shake and just mix it with almond milk before my workout or what?
Also what recipes can I use it for?
You can mix it with anything really, all varieties of milks are common like cows, coconut and almond...
As for recipes, I am slightly conscious about cooking the protein such as people baking cookie/cake mixes because assuming you have a good whey protein source - if placed in high heat, many of the good amino components get denatured (basically destroyed) during the process of high heat... that is why many companies advocate how they use a specialised filter which is done at low temperatures...0 -

ON shakes taste like crap, makes me get a headache :sad:0 -
You can probably make literally any baked good using whey protein.
I made a microwaveable protein mug cake thing last night... turned out okay, need to tweak it
I make protein pancakes a LOT now that I found a recipe I really like. They're freaking awesome.
And then the go-to after my workouts: scoop protein powder, .5c almond milk, half of a frozen banana and some ice. Blended together and voila- tastes like a milkshake. MMMm0 -
You should take it AFTER a workout, within 30 mintues. I mix mine with cold water or almond milk. I guess I just like to keep s**t simple. :happy:0

Yes.
Also, about recepies, I would make sure that cooking whatever powder you are using doesn't cause it to break down and loose any of it's properties. That would defeat the purpose wouldnt it?Optimum Nutrition - the best

ON Cookies and Cream in 2% Milk is highlight of my day. I need discipline to not just drink a 40 oz shake of the stuff. I take in 8 oz with a banana about 30 min before working out, and 2 cups of 2% low fat chocolate milk for post workout.0
