No. I hardly think there is such thing to overdose on any kind of food, unless it has some sort of substance that causes unwanted/ bad effects if taken in high amounts at a given time. Unless you don't want to "overdose" on important minerals and vitamins and the health benefits of spinach, then eat what you like"

You can overdose on Vitamin A as well as Iron which Spinach contains, but you don't really overdose on actual spinach. Too much raw spinach can cause kidney stones as well, but I haven't researched how much you actually have to eat. If you eat as much as you say you might want to check into it.

Spinach is high in iron and a natural diuretic, so it possible to OD on it. However, I have no idea what kind of quantities would be necessary to achieve ill effects.

Yeah, unless you start having like, actual problems from it, there's never enough spinach.

Your friend is wise. Spinach is the #4 killer of women in their thirties. You should cut back before it's too late.

I think you probably just want to make sure you're also getting enough calcium, as the oxalate in spinach can bind to it and block absorption.

I'm part of the Popeye club too! Spinach is awesome, and unless you're getting literally ALL your calories from spinach or having major digestive problems, you're doing great! I put it in my spaghetti sauce last night, it was so good!
  • No. But, I love it in my smoothies. Now add Kale and that will help you drop fat. In smoothies it all taste great. Thanks for sharing.

Too much can cause a build-up of uric acid in your system (if you're prone to gout, this can cause a flare-up), and also interfere with thyroid function. However, the addition of healthy fats (coconut oil, etc.) helps.

The problem with eating too much spinach is oxalates. There is some evidence that eating oxalates in high quantities promotes the formation of kidney stones.

If you don't have kidney issues, I wouldn't worry about it.

There are two kinds of Vitamin A, retinols and caratenoids.

Retinols are found in animal foods, they are pre-formed which means you consume them in the same form that your body uses them. It is possible to overdose on this form of Vitamin A because your body has no way to process the excess.

Caretenoids are found in plant foods. Your body converts them into retinol in order to use them. It is NOT possible to overdose on this form of Vitamin A because your body will simply expell what it cannot use. If you eat tons of it, your skin will turn a little orangish but this harmless and temporary.

So while the levels of Vitamin A in beef liver are potentially toxic if you eat enough, you cannot overdose on the Vitamin A in spinach.

Read the other posts... Didn't know it was high in iron and vitamin A. For iron, I think women have more wiggle room d/t our cycles (we can essentially bleed out extra iron). And for vitamin A, I think there are different types. One is found in food, the other can be produced for multivitamins. The one naturally found is easier to clear by the body, so it's very hard to overdose on. (However you can overdose on the vitamin A in multivitamins!)

    lol my very nonscientific explanation...

The oxalates can crystalize in your bodily fluids causing kidney stones and gallbladder issues.

Only thing is, how much is too much?
