Hey everyone! Not quite sure where to put this, but I've been thinking about getting a vacuum sealer for some time now but I haven't bitten the bullet. I guess I am wondering if any of you have experiences using one and, if so, what you thought of it. I like the idea of being able to preserve blanched veggies and pre-cooked beans and whatnot in my freezer for a few months without them getting all freezer burned. Currently, I use freezer bags and just try to suck the air out of them as much as possible. Sometimes it works okay, sometimes it doesn't.

I bought the cheapo version at the grocery store. It might be Glad that makes them. I love it! I get my chicken, grill it up on Sunday, bag it up for the week and freeze it.

Best 15 bux I have spent in a long time!

(Do not tell the hubs or he will go buy a $300 one!!)

Ooo! Well at $15 the price might be right! Have you seen how the frozen goods hold up over a longer period -- like a few months or so?

My frozen stuff did quite well over a few months. Did a turkey breast once and forgot about it. When I unsealed it about 6 wks later it was just like I had cooked it fresh that day!

Sounds good! I don't have a chest freezer or anything like that and I mostly prefer fresh foods. So, the thought of investing a large sum in a vacuum sealer just didn't make sense. That said, I do have a CSA share and sometimes the vegetables just get outta control and I end up needing to freeze them. So, the cheapie version might be just the ticket! Thanks for the info!

I have the newest FoodSaver out now and it's awesome! I LOVE it! I make homemade pastas, sauces, and soups, freeze them into individual portion sizes and bust them out whenever the need arises! My son uses it to reseal chips and pretzel bags. I also have the containers and they increase the lifespan of fruits and veggies by at least a week. If you don't have one I REALLY suggest it. I buy alot of stuff from Sam's club and automatically break them up (chicken, fish, etc) into 3 oz portions so I know how much I need when I make my food.

Sorry I'm just rambling on, but I love my FoodSaver! It's so awesome! The best $$ I ever spent...next to the juicer...LOL

QVC has the Food Savers for less than buying them direct from Food Saver. I think I'm going to buy one. I waste a lot of food being single. Every time I see the infomercial for one I think I need to get one, I just haven't bitten the bullet yet.
