13 pound loss - October to April

I've been a little down lately, thinking I haven't progressed a lot in the last six months. I tore my meniscus in early November and had surgery in mid-January. Because of the injury, I wasn't really able to work out until just a couple of weeks ago. I did commit to tracking so that my weight wouldn't go overboard.
To my surprise, I've done a pretty good job at not just keeping weight off but LOSING a little, too! I thought these pictures from Warrior Dash (October 20) and Spartan Race (yesterday) really showed what I've been working toward. Just wanted to share with people who can commiserate. I'm still working but it's nice to see hard work paying off along the way.

I don't have an injury so I can't commiserate on that point. I can on the slow weight loss. What impresses me is that you have continued on with your journey while waiting for your injury to heal. I would say you've got it, it's a life style change no matter what is happening in your life. Congratulations on your progress.0

You are doing an amazing job! I, too, had the surgery and I know how frustrating it can be!. The fact that you kept on tracking and didn't lose your focus and determination during your recovery IS your hard work paying off! The ability to feel good enough about yourself to take the time to heal and not lose all your momentum is key. That's the surprise gift you get when you subscribe to the healthy lifestyle, you learn to love yourself instead of beating yourself up.
That surgery can take people years to recover from, (like me-the combination of my age and the accompanying arthritis have made it impossible for me to run anymore) and it looks like you have come back from it strong. You look great in that picture! Healthy, strong and HAPPY!
Congratulations to you!!!0 -
Thanks, ladies! I think I may have gained a bit of muscle after surgery while doing PT. I increased my protein/decreased my carbs at that time, so that may explain looking like more than 13 pounds. I hadn't taken measurements in October (when the before picture was taken), but I know that between the end of November (post injury but pre surgery) and now, I have lost 2 inches from my waist and 1 from my hips.
I also have come to realization that this really has been a lifestyle change. The way I think about food and eat has changed drastically. Compromises don't feel so terrible or difficult to make anymore. Sometimes they're not even compromises -- I often honestly don't want whatever it is that is the unhealthy choice. I doubted severely that I would ever get to this point.
Thanks again for the encouraging words!0
