I ditched special K when I realized how processed they are and how many artificial ingredients they used. I was never on the "special k challenge" or anything, but bought a few of their products here and there like protein bars and cereal. If a brand is going to build itself on being a "healthy choice", it should actually be relatively healthy! The first time I bought the 90 calorie granola bars I thought they were really great. Until I opened one. I realized they're 90 calories, because they're not full sized. To me, Special K seems like "healthy" food for lazier people that dont actually want to take the time and effort to learn about nutrition and how to actually eat right. Definitely not judging anybody who purchases their products, though. I think they taste good actually, even the really processed ones... it was sad to give them up. I just felt like personally, for me, there were better options.

I agree! Very processed! I think you can find healthier options. General rule is 5 ingredients or less and all words that you can pronounce! Contain whole wheat, not enriched wheat and cane sugar, no other types including artificial! Special K is a marketing gimmick! Do you have any natural health food stores in your area? You are better off buying natural whole grain cereal or granola in bulk and mixing with fresh/dried fruit. Instead of a protein bar eat a piece of fruit with raw nuts or a small amount of organic natural peanut butter. Dried fruit is okay as long as it does not have additives. As for salty snack to replace Special K pop chips popping your own popcorn is an option or there is a brand called Pop Chips for a less processed option. Also, pumpkin and or sunflower seeds. I also like sunflower seed nuggets called Somersault Snacks. May have to order online, but worth it! Nutritious and addicting! Hope this helps!

Yes I just buy a few products here and there. I love there Fruit and Yogurt cereal but I try not to buy it because it can never eat just one bowl. lol. So I've cut back from special k alot. Only thing I really buy now is the Chip/cracker. Those are actually pretty good. I wonder how long it will take before the chips get smaller(and still the same about ot calories lol) I would like to try their breakfast sandwiches but in my opinion I can make my own, it will be much bigger and less calories. Only thing about processed food like that is its accessible and convient.

special k products do have a lot of artificial ingredients...but sometimes, you just need something that tastes like junk food. i really like the cracker chips and the pastry crisps...the pastry crisps taste like pop tarts. they may not be as good as fresh fruits and vegetables, but if you have to kill the urge for junk food, its a convenient, easy alternative.

I'm not giving up my sour cream and onion cracker chips..I don't care what's in it. I live in a town with a major air polluting factory..I am eating the damn chips. I have totally given up the other kind of potato chips for these.

It's not just Special K products.
I usually have a supply of 'Naked' bite size nut bars. I had one last week and when I logged it I noticed that there had been a change in the nutrient numbers. Sugar and salt up, protein down. So disappointed.

Cereal in general is a no for me because the serving size is 3/4ths cup. That might fill up a 3-4yr old....

I just use the granola in yoghurt for an after gym snack... but I am looking for an alternative to the special K ones after the gyms nutritionist gave a talk and said that special k was a highly processed food

As a busy high school student i like to eat a quick breakfast so i have more time to sleep! Cereal and some fruit is usually my go to. I really like having special K vanilla almond cereal with almond milk! I figured since the cereal only had 110 calories in a serving and was promoted as a healthy option i was set to go. After looking around MFP a little more and hearing a girl at work talking about sugar ive started to think about more than just calories! Looking on the special K cereal box i noticed 1 serving has 9 grams of sugar! As MFP suggests i get 30 grams a day i didn't want to eat 9 of those on cereal! I always go over by several grams but am trying to lower it a little. I have now switched to cheerios with only 1 gram of sugar per serving.

I do agree the cracker chips are a better option than actual potato chips but they are so "airy" that if i am having them for a snack they don't fill me up. I would rather have a bunch of baby carrots or a denser peice of fruit that will fill me up.. i usully go for the carrots as i overeat on fruits which i know are good for a person but again high in sugar!!!

i don't purchase their products. too expensive for my budget, and the few times I have tried their stuff, it tastes too vitaminy for me.

I totally agree  I don't eat very much processed foods anymore but the cracker chips are my go to weekend snack when I need a chip fix but I don't have enough calories for potato chips. I find I can practice moderation much easier with the cracker chips than I can with fried potato chips. BBQ is my favorite. I also like their vanilla almond cereal sprinkled on top of yogurt but that is about it from special k. I could never eat the cereal as a meal since I would be starving!
