Veggies & Fruits

Do you count them? Someone was recently saying to me don't count them they are mostly water and natural sugars, so they are free. I'm not sure about that comment. Any thoughts?

I know Weight Watchers doesn't count fruit/veggies, but they are on a points program. MFP is based on calories, not points. I count EVERYTHING. Even if its just a serving of lettuce with 5 calories. It all adds up.

On MFP, you are counting more than just total calories. Yes, fruits and veggies have calories. And they also have carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, calcium, etc. That's stuff you'll want to be keeping track of. Your health is based on more than mere calories.

I just had 2 cups of green peas because I couldn't eat potatoes with my chicken. I'm not allowed that starch. When it added up. Those peas were over 200 calories. I count them.

Fruit has a lot of calories (yay natural sugar) Some veggies (starches) have a surprising number of calories. If you were going to 'not' count something, I would go for green fibrous veggies like spinach, kale, celery, etc.

Definitely log carrots, potatoes (reg and sweet), corn, peas, canned green beans, soy beans, etc.

A cup of spinach is about 20 calories... compare that to a cup of peas being 100 calories if you eat them plain... you'll see why I say to log them.

I ate over 500 calories worth of veggies today. If I didn't count them, not only would I have gone over my 'deficit' calories, I'd have gone over my maintenance calories. Count everything!

I count and log them because I log every sip and bite.

ETA: They definitely have an impact on all my numbers that I look at.

When I was doing Weight Watchers I didn't count non-starchy veggies or 2 servings of fruit. Any more fruit than that or starchy veg got counted, but it's a point based system. Now on MFP I log everything, down to coffee and stevia I drink.

I count everything. Veggies and fruits have calories and sugars. They just happen to also be very nutritious as well.

I count them because it has worked for me so far. I also eat a lot of fruits. They are the best low cal dessert.

I do check how I'm doing on nutrients in addition to just straight calorie count. It is important
