Upping my intensity in early morning workouts???

I'm loving getting up super early and going to the Y before starting my day but I feel like I'm so sluggish at that time of day. I can do a much more intense workout later in the morning/day. How can I kickstart and wake up my body better so I can have that same intensity at 5:30 am?

I find thrashing around in bed for a few minutes like a fish on dry land usually helps

I second the pre-workout supplement. I use Cellucor C4 Extreme.

Not that I'm an early morning exerciser by any means, but when I must get up to do it early, I try to do 5-10 minutes of gentle yoga as soon as I wake up with focus on my breathing and I also drink a large glass of water. I feel like the water helps get everything jump started!

Morning sex, no better way to start a day IMO. Seriously. Plus it is a wonderful warm-up and cardio exercise.

Caffeine and sugar. I drink a super strong mug of coffee with 2 tablespoons of honey. I call it rocket fuel

I find that if I have sex first thing in the morning I need a 20 minute nap and then hope for a second round. Forget the gym

Its all about resetting the mind. Get to the Y, do a 5 minute warm up on a treadmill, eliptical to get the blood flowing, then small intervals to push it through the body a little faster and get the adrenaline pumped in. Once that happens, you should be fairly functional at that point.

Or try working out outside in the morning once in while.

I think it's more psychological than anything else. I get to start this routine beginning tomorrow......OY!
