I've only ever used my protein powder and water - that's it. Shake and drink. I'm currently on Syntha 6 Isolate, Chocolate flavour.

If I want things like fruit or spinach or anything like that, I just eat them....

Might look at this for when I'm back at home and in my normal routine with access to shops and blenders and the like. With these full on shakes are you using them as one of your small meals/snacks for the day?

Wow my shakes are really quite boring but I guess I am on caloric restriction at the moment so I don't want to waste too many calories on a shake, would rather eat them.

    I always put
    1 cup skim milk
    8 ice cubes and
a scoop of protein powder and blend it up.

I like the consistency of the shake and they always taste yummy.

I mix it up a bit in that I use Optimum Nutrition choc malt, cookies n cream or extreme choc milk flavour. When I am a little more exciting I use one of several other brands of choc or vanilla flavoured protein powders that I am trying to use up and add something different like some mango, bananas, berries or some peanut butter. This thread is making me think I should get a little more creative though, but the shakes I make kinda taste like a yummy thickshake but they aren't naughty...

    Almost every morning I have:

Blueberries, baby spinach, kale (super good for you, and you can't taste it), shredded carrots, Spiru-Soy Protein Powder, 1/2 banana, ground flax seed, CoQ10, cinnamon, and strawberries. In that order I put it all in my Nutri-Blast and whirl away. Yumm-O!!! I feel like if I were to blow the rest of the day, at least I've gotten all my nutrients in the morning.

good lord some of these seem so complicated. ain't nobody got time for a protein shake that takes 10 minutes to gather all the ingredients!

    chocolate protein powder
    2 TBSP of PB
    half a banana

    ice, water, blend then drink.

I will admit sometimes I get a little crazy and use almond milk instead of water.

    My usual:
1/3 cup frozen blueberries, strawberries or raspberries
    1/3 avocado
    1/2 cup kale
    1/2 cup spinach
    1 tspn chia seeds
    1 tspn cacao
    3/4 scoop protein powder
    water

The kale, spinach, chia, protein powder are really my standard ingredients...I will throw in whatever else I come across too...kiwi, apples, banana, mango, almond milk, almond butter, pom juice ...etc. I tried spirulina a couple weeks ago but the smell made me gag - working up the courage to try it again soon! I'd like to incorporate a few more veggies into it though.

Firstly, I have a Vita-Mix, which I love almost as much as my children. That helps.

I try to keep a few bags of frozen fruit in the freezer at all times. Cheap and easy, and doesn't require using ice cubes.

8oz Water or milk (almond, coconut or cow) - mostly almond
    1 scoop Trutein vanilla
    1 cup frozen fruit
    1 cup vanilla yogurt (sometimes)
.5 cup cottage cheese (sometimes) - sounds gross, but a great addtion to a smoothie. Try it.
    1 tbsp maple syrup (sometimes)
    1 banana (sometimes)
    1 cup fresh fruit
2 tbsp peanut or almond butter (sometimes)
ice if no frozen fruit - six cubes or so (1 handful)

Some variation of the above 4-5 times a week in the morning, 1-3 times a week at night.

1 scoop of Body Fortress vanilla whey
    1 cup of nonfat milk
    1 frozen banana

When I have the extra calories, I'll throw a tbsp of peanut butter in there. So yummy!

I also do a bowl of proatmeal a few times a week. That's just oatmeal with a scoop of whey. No need to add anything else. If you do quick oats (in the microwave), be sure to cook the oatmeal before adding the protein powder. It's not so good the other way. LOL! :embarassed:

I just started drinking protein shakes this week because I learned that I do not get nearly enough protein in my diet.

The protein shake that I make for myself right now is:
    - 1 scoop of Six Star Pro Nutrition - Professional Strength Whey Protein Plus Elite Series in the Triple Chocolate flavour
    - 2 Tbsp of smooth peanut butter
    - 1.5 cups of 2% milk
I blend these together in a glass using a hand mixer. I absolutely love this shake because it tastes just like Reese's!

What's in YOUR homemade protein shake?

Mine is very similar to yours, however, I use natural peanut butter, about a tablespoon, and unsweetened almond milk (only 60 calories/cup). I'm trying to increase my protein, but I'm only allowed 1300 kcal/day.
And it does taste just like a Reese's PB cup!

    1. 1/2 Banana or 1/2 yogurt or 1/4 cup skim milk are key for getting a 'smooth" texture (one fourth cup low fat ice cream if I want more of a milkshake.)

    2. berries or chocolate, depending on my hankering

    3. instant coffee for a frappe with the chocolate route (decaf for me)

    4. ice cubes (4 of my ice makers)

    5. 1 scoop protein powder (chocolate or vanilla)

Optional sweetneres: honey, if the berries made it bitter, or packet of splenda if the chocolate route is still not meeting my sweet tooth (skim milk variety sometimes needs it).

Toppings (optional) Add light hershey's syrup splash for a swirl of chocolate, or 1 T. mini semi-sweet chocolate chips for something different.

LEFTOVERS POPSICLE TIP: I drink one cup to 1.5 cup, then freeze the remaining cup in a popsicle maker for a quick after workout pick me up if I'm running out the door or too tired to "create". I just count it as 1/4 serving of the initial recipe for calories.
