I think it depends on your dietary needs/restrictions. I have had success with trying to increase my lean proteins (Chicken, shrimp, pork loin/chops), decreasing my red meat (beef), adding more fruits and veggies as often as possible, and switching to low-fat or fat-free dairy products. Fat-free Greek yogurt gets a huge stamp of approval from me- it's filling, fairly low calorie, and chock full of protein. Same goes for fat-free or reduced sodium low-fat cottage cheese. You have to be careful with Greek yogurt and buy quality brands because some add thickeners to theirs. Fage is great- no added thickeners or weird preservatives. Also, if you buy flavored, check the sugar content. Some are ridiculous!
I love apples- high fiber, lower sugar than other fruits. I also find that herbal teas often help to curb cravings for sweets, so look for herbal teas.
I also love love LOVE avocado, and use it in place of mayo on sandwiches. It's not low-calorie, but it is incredibly satisfying if you want something creamy and the healthy fats in it keep me fuller for longer.0 -

You should go see a nutitionist to get started. She/he will listen to your goals, your current eating habits and make recommendations. I saw one before I started and she targeted by weak areas and recommened I get 4 small meal thoughout the date including a protien, veggist and carb. That way I would not be so susseptable to overeating dinner.
You also walk away with numerous flyers with lots of good information.
It worked. I lost 20 pounds the six weeeks. And I only have to return if I plateua and she help be reanalyse (sp?)0 -
It's the food you don't eat that makes you lose weight.0

I was watching "The Drs" while at the gym today and they listed these 5 foods as good for becoming leaner.
1. Apples -the whole apple. The peal has nutrients too.
2. Mushrooms -high in vitamin D.
3. Greens -specifically things like spinach and kale. High in vitamins and fiber, and can be filling.
4. Quinoa -whole grains at dinner are shown to lead to a lean body.
5. Lean Protein -like eggs, fish, chicken
I find that when I have lost the most weight are the weeks with a high volume of vegetables and a low volume of processed foods.
Hope this helps.0 -

When it comes to weight loss what's most important is not what you eat, it's how much you eat. Some people lose weight easier with high carbs (in a deficit) and some lose weight easier with low carbs. Everyone's body is different, so you'll need to find out what works best for you. You'll probably feel better if you consume clean foods, but you still won't lose the weight if you eat a calorie surplus of them.0 -

As long as it is a deficit you will lose. However, if you eat "clean" and lift heavy your body transformation will be incredible.
Protein, eggs, egg whites, tuna, chicken, turkey...
Carbs- wole grain bread (I love Dave's Killer bread), YAMS, natural unsweetened applesauce (add your own cinnamon), oatmeal, grits, fruit, yogurt.
Fats - raw nuts, avocado, olive/coconut oil.
Mix things up, use spices, and weigh/measure your food. Good luck. 8 weeks of this for me has resulted in a 20 lb loss0
