Wine

Hi, I'm new here, and I don't know if this topic has been done much before...
I'm currently staying within 1300 calories a day, some days a bit lower than that. I'm not looking to lose THAT much and am going for a slow and steady loss before summer. So far I have cut out all the alcohol (and not really been that social). It's really annoying as I usually have wine with dinner but I thought I'd get used to cutting out the wine.
I've looked through the calorie statistics and see that dry white wine (which I usually have) is around 81 kcal for an 8 ounce glass. I usually have 300 calories spare in the evening, so I could have a couple of glasses with a friend and still stay within the limit.
I know however, that alcohol will slow down the weight loss process as the body has to work down the alcohol before it starts on the food.
For those of you who are actually losing, do you have wine occasionally? How much damage are we talking here?

Drinking wine does not slow down weight loss--keep within your daily calorie goal and you'll be fine. I drink it anywhere from 1-4 times per week and have no trouble losing to plan.
But do double-check your calories for white wine. 81 cals for 8 ounces? Sounds more like 4 ounces to me.0 -
As long as you budget your calories and hit your macros, then you can absolutely drink wine, beer, etc. The problem is that with your super low calorie limit, it's going to hard fitting in 150 empty calories for wine while still getting plenty of protein and fiber. Why are you eating so few calories? Are you really short or sedentary?0

I'm 5"9 and fitnesspal suggested 1 lbs per week for me and 1300 calories a day, obviously with a workout I can eat 1500 or so.
I get enough protein per day, actually I usually go over the protein limit, I often have egg white omelette for breakfast or lunch and if I have chicken fillet or salmon for dinner as well I usually pass it. The only thing I have a "problem" filling up without going over the calorie limit is the carbs.0 -

Yes I thought it sounded a bit strange, but I looked up Sancerre and it said 81 cals for 8 ounces and I googled wine glass sizes and a regular glass seemed about 4 ounces. I will double check it though.
Edit: Actually I googled it, and from Waitrose' webpages Sancerre is 81 calories for 4 ounces. So Fitnesspal's estimates are wrong, in fact they're half of the actual value! I could potentially have consumed a lot of extra calories because of this. Now I'm very skeptical of fitnesspal, God knows what the real calorie amounts are.0 -
I would recommend trying to stick with one glass and savor it instead of a couple just because you have extra calories to eat. I find that the more I drink, I make poorer choices with food, like starting to munch. Actually I contribute most of my weight gain to alcohol !! but I'm not a fan of total restriction to anything you enjoy. Anything in moderation.0
