App to use on treadmill

I'm going to the gym but some days I can't. I was given an old treadmill with multiple speeds. Problem is the speed is controlled by a little lever but the electronic part that shows your speed doesn't work. Is there an android app that can help you figure it out? I know there are running apps but I figured since the location wont change they wont work. Any ideas? I know a HRM would be best but can't afford one now. TIA

  • Can you afford a cheap pedometer? Measure the length of your stride you take... then multiply that by the number of steps you took... and divide by however long you worked out for to figure out your mph?

So.... Walking... Average stride let's say 2.5 feet.... 2112 strides... in 12 minutes (.2 hours) ...

    2.5 feet x 2112 strides = 5280 feet = 1 mile
    1 mi / .2 hours = 5 miles per hour....

Not sure about apps, but if you have an iPod, you can load it with music that beats at a certain speed. For instance, my iPod is loaded with songs that are 130 beats per minute, which translates to 3.5 miles per hour. You can look for songs at a speed you like at..

You can search according to genre for walking, running, biking. On the treadmill at the gym, I play hip hop. It really gets me motivated. And Pitbull songs are almost all 130bpm!

Nike+ works indoors - and it does so surprisingly well. You have to either carry the phone in your pocket, or use an armband. Before you begin, you specify it's an indoors workout and it'll do the rest.
