Ok, I'll admit it. I love this show. There I said it.
But I watch the chefs... A little bit of salt (1/4 cup) a dash of sugar (another 1/4 cup) fry in a bit of oil (half cup) finished it with a dash of butter (maybe a tablespoon this time) and a sprinkle of salt (a half teaspoon or half of your daily allowance) and Voila, it's ready to serve!
And then we wonder why we are overweight? (and drueling)

I love the show too!! But you are right...this is why we as North Americans are overweight! Or at least, one of the reasons that SOME are overweight. Not everyone gains weight because of food habits.0

Oh Crap! I was watching prep for deep fried pickles when I typed. DROOL IT IS!!!
The crab and the pickles were probably reversed now that I think about it. I was in an epileptic sodium seizure during the whole show. Sorry0 -
We are not fat because shows make food look tasty or chefs make food taste tasty. We are fat because we spend too much time watching these shows and not enough time making our own food. We are lazy and it is our own fault.0

I love that show as well, it's one of my favorite things to watch when I do watch TV. I have been playing a little game since I started watching it at work. I try and replace the calorie dense items they use with healthier options in my head as they make the item. often times I find myself saying "I bet I could make that for a 1/4th the calories and it would be just as good"0

HaHa! Me too. Sometimes I actually try and make it and It works out OK, but only OK. I was a salt freak and I am sad to admit it but salt is what makes many of the dishes so good0 -
Don't feel badly - I've been to a couple of the places recommended on the show, and frankly, the food just hasn't been that great. Pretty average, actually. So, you may have done an outstanding job with your healthier version.0

Triple D baby! My guy always says,"how are you not starving by the time you get done watching these shows?!" (I like Food Network:)) its just fun to watch and Guy cracks me up.0

I love Guy and the Triple D! But I am also a Foodnetwork junkie! It sorta coincides with the fact that I have a passion for cooking.0

True...that's why I really wish to make my own food. It's one of the bigger reasons I'm losing 6 pounds before I go to my mom's for the summer: I have this feeling I'm going to be putting the pounds back on through her cooking xD.
Anyway, *cough* I've been to one place recommended on Triple D, and it was AWESOME.0 -

I like this show, the types of foods I like look sooo scrumptious (spelling don't care). I wouldn't mind visiting some of those establishments!!0

We are not fat because shows make food look tasty or chefs make food taste tasty. We are fat because we spend too much time watching these shows and not enough time making our own food. We are lazy and it is our own fault.
Watching the shows has nothing to do with cooking our own food. We are lazy and would rather eat out than cook our own food, faster, easier and most times tastes better than what we think we can prepare. In this busy busy world we live in spending time with the family in the kitchen has become a thing of the past. When we can go to restaurant and demand no butter and less salt and oil then they will start making it different. But face it, everything tastes better with all that butter and oil and yes even salt. But I have no problem (NOW) going out to eat and telling them no butter no oil even near my food. If they can't do it I can leave. But I love drooling and wishing I could sit down and dive into all the yumminess they make on that show or any other show. But the show didn't make me fat.0 -
You do realize, however, that this show is called DINERS (notorious for greasy, fatty, delicious food), DRIVE-IN'S (notorious for quick, cheap, delicious food), and DIVES (hole-in-the wall places that make delicious food).
So, it's not like every restaurant is like that.... just the best ones :P haha.0 -

Funny, I use salt, sugar, olive oil, butter, heavy cream -- I use no "diet" or light products -- I'm not fat. My husband is not fat, my daughter is not fat.
We practice portion control, moderation. We eat lots of veggies -- we exercise 3-5 times a week.0 -
Man Vs. Food is saliva inducing as well. :glasses:
Edited to say I do indulge in all those " no no" foods pretty often. For me portion control and having a proper balance is key. Obviously I'm not a fitness model or anything, but I've done pretty well with my weight loss so far, even with occasionally eating high fat "bad food".0 -

Edited to say I do indulge in all those " no no" foods pretty often. For me portion control and having a proper balance is key. Obviously I'm not a fitness model or anything, but I've done pretty well with my weight loss so far, even with occasionally eating high fat "bad food".

You know, in France (where I come from), shows like this simply don't exist.
First, because we believe that food should be in moderation and that food should be fresh and healthy.
Cooking shows in french include cooking up a storm with good quality, fresh products... And France is not overweight.0 -
Adore this show and just caught an episode today. They had 12 oz. burgers at a place in East NY and even Guy said he could only eat half a burger, no way could he finish the whole thing. It was MASSIVE. I think I could do it but then I looooove burgers.0

I've been to two of the Triple D places where he has filmed. Whenever I go to Maine, it is a must, that I stop at Bob's Clam Hut to have a Maine Lobster Roll. The other place I just ate at the other night (actually morning). I waited for over an hour to get a booth starting at 12:30 AM after seeing a show and hitting a couple of bars. The place was packed!0
