How long do you think it will take to lose 65 lbs?

Hello MFP friends!
So I started out at 230 and have lost 18 pounds so far since March 9. I want to lose 65 more and am trying to project by when I should be able to achieve this. Does anyone have any suggestions or motivation for how long it took them? I keep being tempted when we go out to dinner. Like tonight it's to Red Robin. OY!

I guess it depends on how you do it. As you can see from my ticker, I have lost 50 pounds and it's 11 months today. Slow and steady is the best way to go.0

I think 1 or 2lbs a week is a sensible rate to lose your weight. If you lose 2lbs a week that's around 33 weeks which is just under 9 months. Take into account the fact that it will get harder to lose as you get closer to your goal. It helps me to break the weight into chunks and give myself goals of around 10lbs.0

1 year.. I've lost 30 this year alone, but none has been this month because it gets harder and I've hit a plateau.0
-
Probably a year or so.
I have lost just over 50lbs, and it took around 10 months. It came off a lot more quickly in the beginning than it does now.0 -
Thanks everyone! Good to know! I hate it being so slow, although I know it's better for you in the long run!0
-
Depends on your body, I've taken 10 months to lose 27lbs.0

18 lbs already in a month and a half??! How did you do that?0
-
I would say a year too!!!!
Slow and steady!!!! Good luck!!!
Ps buy yourself a nice dress in a certain size you want to be, keep that in your wardrobe to give you an incentive ..... Or make a collage of things you want to treat yourself too once you have lost weight......
Or even better, a treat to yourself after every stone lost : )0 -
depends on alot of factors. i have lost 65 pounds in 7 months (started septmeber 17 2012), however, there are alot of factors at play when it comes to our bodies. just keep doing what works, and keep your eye on your goal!0

well, remember how fast the first 10 pounds comes off! alot of that is sodium / water weight... results are pretty typical i think, when considering that first "woosh" of water weight... but its still an awesome loss!!!0 -
I'm down 72 in 9 months. I think everyone is so unique that there is not one sure fire way that works for everyone. Just keep doing what you're doing and the weight will come off.0

I just counted calories and last week I started working out. Probably a ton of water weight. I was on prednisone back in the fall for a bad case of laryngitis and sinus infection which made me gain 30 lbs. It's so frustrating!0 -
i bet you could be atleast near your goal by christmas... wouldnt that be awesome!!!0

I'm down 60 since March of last year. It's been slow, but on Monday I realized I had lost 60 lbs.. Go in to the gym and pick up 60 lbs in weights.. Not too bad if I might say so. Abad breakup, stressful job and some scary health issues (and lack of motivation throughout the winter) are all things that have lead the weightloss to slow down, but I'm back on track! Just started Jamie Easons LiveFit trainer 2 weeks ago! Can't wait to see the results!0

It took me 10 months to lose my last 60 pounds. It went at a pretty steady rate. Some weeks 2-3 and some weeks less than a pound. I got super lucky in that I lost a little (sometimes a tenth of a pound) each week.
Maintenance has been a lot harder for me personally.
Good luck to you!0 -
I have about the same amount to lose. I'm down about 19 lbs in just over 3 months, so, yeah, 9 to 12 months sounds about right.
It takes a while for ALL of it to come off, yes, but it only takes a few months for you to be down 15-20 lbs and you'll see the difference there, too0 -
Probably the first 40 or so pounds it is possible to lose two pounds a week (at tops), but the lower you get, the harder it will be, so the last 25 may be more around 1 pound a week. So around 45-52 weeks, is my guess. About a year. You don't want to lose it faster than that, because you are more likely to yoyo back up. Good job on the weight loss so far, by the way! You've already gotten past the hardest part of starting!0

Hi
As others have said everyone is different. I've lost 69lbs since mid-June last year but since February nothing . I've hit a plateau0 -
Depends how you go about it. I started losing weight last year late Jan/early feb. I lost around 60lbs in about 6-7 months, but over the holidays I gained some back (lack of exercise and not watching what I was eating). By mid feb I was back at 225lbs. Just adding exercise and eating healthier choices, I got down to 218 by mid march. Then I started calorie counting in mid march and am now down to 204.8lbs. I'm trying to lose weight at a slower rate this time so I won't gain a lot back.0

Thank you for your replies! This is really helping me. I've started and stopped multiple times but it got to a point where I couldn't fit in my "fat" clothes and then bought new ones and then started to not fit in them! It's so hard to stay on track with my lifestyle but I try to find ways. I am constantly going out to dinner just because I have rehearsal and I either have to eat before hand really quickly or we all go out afterwards. Recently, and fortunately, I'm not so hungry any more and the hardest thing was the exercise but I'm definitely trying to find time for that.0

I have lost 66 llbs in the past 7 months. My weight loss has slowed in the past 2-3 months but I am slowly still losing.0
-
Depending on how hard you work at it, it can be as quick as 32 weeks at 2lbs per week. The more weight you lose and leaner you get, it will slow down. For me, I had no problems getting down to 118lbs and 16% bf at a rate of 2lbs per week but from there it would have taken drastic measures if I wanted to drop more because I was already so lean. The body doesn't want to let go of it at that point.0
-
It took me 7 months to lose 60 pounds and then another 5 months to lose another 5 pounds0
-
I've lost 47 lbs so far and it's been eleven months. i will probably have lost 51 by the time the year make roles around. you dont want to lose it too fast because odds are you will gain it back.0
-
Slow and steady is a better indicator for maintaining weight loss so I would give it 1-1.5 lbs a week with consistent calorie logging/exercise. Physique improvements are more rewarding for me so make sure you have other ways to measure success as well like measurements/body fat testings/clothing fit0

This:
In the past i've lost 60 lbs in 5-ish months, only to quit in a diet-induced rage and gain it back. this time i've lost 50 in 10 months and don't hate my life. whatever is sustainable for you though!I guess it depends on how you do it. As you can see from my ticker, I have lost 50 pounds and it's 11 months today. Slow and steady is the best way to go.0 -
It takes as long as it takes. You will know when you get there.
A "safe" estimate is losing 1 lb a week - some weeks more, some weeks less.0 -
I took just over a year to do it, but I went a very conservative route - losing roughly .5 lb a week with a 250 calories deficit. (in the early stages, I lost faster than I anticipated) I simply refuse to 'diet'.
I've maintained the loss for almost a year now. :bigsmile:0 -
Does it matter?
Will you decide not to do it if it takes a year?0 -
For me, 60 lbs came off in 7 months, then it took 5 months for the remaining 10, but that didn't matter since the first 60 lost brought me down to a reasonably healthy weight and BMI.0
