Restaurant Nutrition

How accurate is it and how seriously should we take it?

I mean, according to this you could go on a McDonald's diet and still cut calories relatively easily!

People like to demonize McDonald's, but there's really very little reason to as long as you practice portion control and be mindful of the better and worse items. Even our local McDonald's in Podunkville, Indiana has calorie counts for their food right next to the item on the menu board. You probably won't get all of your vitamins and minerals, but it won't ruin your diet if you make sensible choices.

It's moderately accurate. Just like our estimations of calories burned through exercise is moderately accurate. It's all just estimates really - so it tends to mostly even out.

The thing you'll probably find out though is take for example a Mc Donald's cheeseburger while not excessive in calories, it's not filling either. So an hour later you're hungry all over again and eat say another cheeseburger - so now you've had double calories when you could have had something with more fiber and protein that the cheeseburger but the same calories that will keep you full so much longer.
