What's the best way to celebrate reaching a goal?

So I am so VERY CLOSE to reaching my first goal (I've lost 30.2 lbs, my first goal is 32lbs / weight 250lbs).

I told my kids this morning when mommy gets there we're going to celebrate. They immediately said we should have a whole party of cakes and cookies. And then my 9yo said, "But what will you eat then mommy?" (They know I don't eat junk anymore).

So I told them we'll do something fun; maybe a trip to the beach.

What have you done to celebrate reaching a goal? (I have another 100lbs to lose after I hit 250, but I gotta start somewhere).

And as much as I would like some really good ice cream, I'm not interested in celebrating with food...

Welcome!

You have the right idea not to reward yourself with food, do something that you think you would enjoy! Whether that be a day at the spa, getting your hair done, seeing a concert with your kids, going to an amusement park, buying a new outfit, the beach sounds awesome as well! I know some of my friends have tattoos planned.

    Setting a new goal.

I have all my goals laid out already :)

    282 - starting weight
    Goal 1 - 250lbs (almost there!)
    Goal 2 - 225lbs
    Goal 3 - 200lbs
    Goal 4 - 175lbs
    Goal 5 - 150lbs

I'd get a massage... man, could I use a good massage.

Going out to events or to the beach or something might be fun, but I wouldn't be likely to use it as a reward for myself, because if I want to do something like that I usually just do it (whenever it comes up). I get excited about all sorts of random events, and I don't usually think too much about it. If I want to go camping, I start planning a weekend trip. My interests lead me in all sorts of weird & wonderful directions, and unless it's something expensive, I don't bother restraining myself. It might be a bit different with kids (which I don't have yet), but I suspect I'd just get the kids somehow involved in whatever hi-jinx I get up to.

I think a reward (for me, anyway) should be something I wouldn't typically spend the money on. So, reaching a weight goal is a good excuse - it's worth it to get that massage or pedicure, because no amount of money is too much to pay for my health and fitness. There's no money-spending guilt involved if I've earned it.

But, you need to pick something that will really make you feel good about yourself, because that's the most important thing. If going to the beach with the kids does that for you, then that might be just the thing.

If it's more about getting the kids on board, and teaching them healthy eating habits, then an activity might be good. You could go to a fair if there's one in your area, or even just a really nice park that's a bit further away than most of them - maybe something with an extra-fun playground, or a big lake with paddle boats, or something along those lines.

Congrats on your weight lost so far - sounds like you're doing fantastic!

Get your nails & toes done for the beach! Massage or hair?
Sounds like you may have lost enough to be in the market for new foundations... buy one set that is girly, flirty, sexy or fun!

I usually pour myself a couple fingers of whiskey and call an escort.
  • A new outfit :) You're going to need some transitional clothes as you lose weight, and finding something that makes you feel great and shows off your progress is a great reward.

Honestly I reached my initial goal on Friday and did...NOTHING. Sad, isn't it? Money is tight for many reasons right now though so I am just satisfied that I met my goal. I could use some new pants but all in due time.

Congratulations!! I would get a mani/pedi or buy yourself a cute new top or pair of shoes? I think it's awesome you don't want to use food as your reward! I'm sure you'd inevitably end up regretting "rewarding" yourself if you did. Way to go!

My husband probably wouldn't take kindly to me hiring an escort. And why waste the calories on booze? Unless we're talking a good wine....

well- as a mom I think you need to separate your reward from the family reward. I would do something fun with the kids (a picnic at the beach , going to a movie, a family bowling trip etc.) but you need a reward for yourself that you will get excited about too. I plan a massage for every 10 lbs to keep me going. I am not sure what I will pick for my final reward. I thought of laser hair removal or breast implants. (when I am thin I am an a cup, so it would be nice to have the boobs and be skinny at the same time) I haven't completely decided yet.

I like promising myself rewards. A day off work (kind of the opposite of a "sick" day - a "well" day :)). A trip out of town - Vegas, anyone? Massages are good. A nice bottle of scotch...stuff like that. :)

My first goal is to be under 200 pounds and then I will get a manicure and pedicure. I am really trying to stay away from rewards involving food because lets face it thats what got me here in the first place.

I have all of my goals broken down in monthly segments, and each one gets a different reward. I usually reward myself with small, $15-$20 items. In January I bought new pillows, and last month it was a new dress. Sometimes if there's something bigger that I want I'll set a three month goal. I used to reward myself with a cheat day or a night out, but I've found that this is much better at keeping me motivated!

I was at nutritionist this morning and according to her scale I reached 250.6 which she considers goal.

But I'm having such a crappy few days all I want is ICE CREAM.
