strength training - favorites?

I need to add some strength training! If you only had time to do 3 exercises, what would they be (excluding core work)?

I'm excluding core work because I already consider it a priority - on that note, what are your favorite core excercises?

My usual cardio includes walking most days, Zumba class on 2 days, and xbox Kinect Zumba on 1 or 2 days when I don't have my Zumba class. I definately need some upper-body work!

Thanks all,

Bonnie Jo

I like planks, mountain climbers, and my big one is the ab roller at the end of all that

I second the squats and deadlifts, but if you're just looking for upper body, I'd do

    Over-head or military press
    Bench press
    Bent-over rows

If there were three, and only three, then I would choose:

    Barbell Squats
    Barbell Benchpress
    Pull-ups

These three hit basically all the major muscle groups.

If I could add three more:

    Deadlifts
    Bent-over rows
    Military Press

I do not understand the point of doing squats AND deadlifts if only three exercises may be done. Both are wonderful exercises and part of a well-balanced workout plan, but what about biceps and upper back?

Squats are more quad dominant, deadlifts work the posterior chain more.

My *favorites* are squat, overhead press, and one-arm dumbbell rows but I'll have to agree with those who are saying squat, dl, and bench press for the most important.
