BodyMedia Fit tips?

Does anyone have any BodyMedia Fit tips? I just got mine in the mail yesterday. I have figured out how to link with MFP, but does anyone have any other tricks or tips? I guess I want to know what you wish you had known when you first got yours. I think it will be fun.

Just keep wearing it!!! Think carefully about setting your deficit. How much do you have to lose. Also, keep syncing it and analyse the data for each type of a ti its/exercise to get a 'feel' for how to burn more calories.

I love mine! I agree - keep wearing it and give some real thought to the goals you set. I feel like mine is pretty accurate. My weight loss is right on target with the deficits the Body Media is showing. I have a pretty set schedule with mine - take it off for my morning shower and put it on an hour later (you're only supposed to wear it 23 hours a day), then take it off for about 10 minutes in the evening to download my info. After the first day or so I didn't even notice it on my arm. Good luck!!

I've had mine two days and it's sooo cool. Unfortunately, I think I'm allergic to it (I guess the metal bothers some people- had I known this, I would've gotten another device). I can't wear it all day because it starts to burn after a few hours, so do what I can. I figure I might as well learn what I can before I can't wear it anymore. :(

I still can't get my head around the difference in calories between MFP and BMF- I can't figure out how to get them in sync. I don't like that I have to plug in the device to get it to sync with my computer, yet the phone is updated pretty much automatically. That was confusing for me the first day.

I did learn that MFP was giving me waaaayyyy to high of a burn for my kickboxing class and too low for weight training. So that was pretty interesting.

What I do is workout what my BMF burn is on an average day- then I change my activity level on MFP until I get a TDEE ( look,at the right hand side of the My Home then Goals section. It says 'calories burned from normal activity' ). Then make sure you set the weekly loss the same in both BMF and MFP. It doesn't really matter what you set your MFP activity level to as BMF will change it when you sync but I like to give it a rough idea-especially if you don't sync very often. Dies that make sense.

    Also- keep a small deficit.
  • Slightly off topic! How do you get the 3 free months? when I put in my serial number to register it, it took me to a check out page and I had to buy a month subscription to use it.

Mine irritated my arm a little the first couple of days. I moved it up and down an inch or two every couple of hours. After a couple of days, that was no longer an issue. I never notice it any more.

You don't have to plug in the device to get it to sync with your computer if you have the Link. If your phone is "Live" you need to hit the sync button on your phone and it will sync to the Activity Manager. I don't physically sync with my computer very often, I use the phone to do it.

Been using mine for about three weeks and love it. I am still working my way around it to interpret just what the data tells me, besides its face values.

You can use it in its simplest form or tailor it to your wants and desires. Did I say I love it?

It took me a while to find the reports. Once you've been wearing it a while you can print out reports for one, two, three, or four weeks. You can choose the end date of the reports, too. So I could make a summary report from three months ago or last week.

You can edit the time the device is off-body in the Calories Burned section. So if you swim you can manually add that activity. Or if you leave for work and forget to put it on, later on you can edit and say I burned the same as such and such a date.

In the Calories Burned section if you highlight a time frame it will give you the time, calories burned etc. for just the highlighted area. So if you run for 35 minutes and want to know what it gave you for a burn amount, highlight the time you were running and it will give a summary on the top of the chart for that activity time.

I'm sure there are more things, but that's all I can think of right now. Play around with all the buttons you can press. LOL It took me a while to find the summary reports because I thought "reports" meant to report a problem.

Edited to add, there is a Bodymedia Fit group you can join here.

I have had mine since December and I have worn it just about everyday. The number one tip I can give you is, if you ride bike or do something that is more leg heavy than arm heavy, transfer the band to your ankle. It took me a month or so to figure out that it wont read my stationary bike unless I put it on my leg. I love everything else about it though. I enter my food and exercise on MFP and if there are any extra calories I burned it will add those to MFP too. Its is a great tool and now if I forget to wear it or have it on my ankle the people in my office ask me if I forgot it cause they are so used to seeing it on my arm

I got mine near end of January. I love it and wear it everyday. It recommends you only wear it 23 hours a day at most to let your skin breathe a bit. It was several weeks before I noticed an off-body edit feature on the activity manager. Go to the calorie burned drop down and it will be in top left of graph if available. You have option to manually enter what you did, select one of the past 7 days to copy, or pick you were inactive. I planned times to take off and sync/recharge that were a routine in my day. Sleeping since I didn't have any problems waking up in middle of the night I found out. Planned out watching a couple show around same time at night so I could copy.

I also notice that arm placement of band does effect data collected so figure out calorie burn on calculator for a bit until you find a location that is pretty accurate. Some people have problems with dry skin or something and need a gel to help with conduction of feedback from body to electronic device. Read this with various HRM and such but I never had a problem with it. If you cannot find a spot giving you accurate feedback I would look into one of the gel products to see if that helps.

I use MFP to only do food intake and BMF to track calories out and they sync and use my calorie deficit on phone. Currently I have MFP set to my BMR just to make sure I am hitting that target since I found out many days I could eat under 1756 calories and not be hungry. I know strange but being under I my food log on this site is a warning to me.

I'm having to sync my armband to phone every time I take my armband off. Not sure if this is common but once I thought about how little effort it is to push a couple buttons it hasn't been an issue.

When I do new activities I check the Physical Activity graph and have been amazed at how much of a difference moving makes. I recommend doing this a lot when you start. The first couple times I did some housework I was amazed I was burning around 4.5-5 calories a minute. Over 3 times sitting on couch. I never thought standing there washing dishes or pushing a light vacuum around would make a huge difference. Wife doesn't mind now when I bump up my calorie burn some nights.

Send a friend request if you like or message me with any questions.

I love mine. I use it along with MFP. I log my food on here... but I love the reports i get on BFM. It really helps me with my daily goals. I dont have the link but i purchased the little display that will alert you when you reach goals

If you go to the bit which says something like 'select date' you can look,at summary over a varied number of days. It works out the average for each category and also gives you a bar graph showing individual days.

Am I correct in that I don't have to enter any exercise in MFP since it's automatically uploaded from the BM? I see in my exercise section here that I have calories burned entered for me. SWEET!

I think I'm getting the hang of this. Hopefully OP is too. I'm using MFP for the diet part, BM for calorie burn and really keeping my eye on that deficit to be sure I hit it. Other than yesterday, I've more than hit my goal. Yesterday was my "free day" and I logged out of curiousity. It was ugly- but at least i'll have a better overall picture of my deficit for the week. The reports will be very handy!

I was able to wear the armband most of today without it bothering me. I haven't been wearing it to bed and wipe it with alcohol every day. Hopefully I can keep it going and not turn into a mess of hives and itch. It's so cool!

I didn't realize so many people had responded to my post. Thanks so much for the tips. So far, very handy. I have had my BMF for 4 days and I think it is so much fun. I have been very aware of my movement and that has been awesome. Something that is so concerning (and exciting?) for me is that I can eat so much. I am one of these....lose as much as possible as fast as I can people (I'm changing), so at the end of every day my goal was to see a big number of projected loss when I hit the "complete this entry" button on MFP. In order to see that big number I had to stay around 1200 calories. I was really finding that I wasn't losing my target 2 lb a week anyway. So, here I am, a slow learner, learning that I need to eat more and take better care of my body. I think so far BMF is helping and I LOVE syncing with MFP.

I'm curious...Is there anyone out there like me, that tried to hit that 1200 calorie mark for so long, before switching to BMF? What were your results? Did you begin immediatley seeing the weight come off or did your body have to adjust? I just want to hit my 2 lbs a week. I have about 40 lbs to lose.

Thanks again! I really enjoy this form of motivation and help!

I did it through the BM website. Log in, go to apps, scroll through and find it.
