Did I truly burn this much?

Hey,

today I got a Polar ft4. I put in the basics, my height, weight, etc, then went to workout. I did my usual, walking as fast as I can (about 4.8 mph or so) for about an hour and a half. According to the monitor, it says I burned a little more than 500 calories! I wet the strap very well, for about a minute or more, and placed it tight below my chest. Is this accurate? It just seems a little too good to be true; I mean, that's an entire meal for Christ's sake xD All answers appreciated :)

LOL I too was astounded when I got a tracker and was like I burned 1/3 of my calories from just that! Some days I burn up to 700 and I don't even realize it until I'm long gone and done with the gym....then I'm like crap its 8pm with 2 hours til I go to bed and I have 1200 calories to eat!

Based on what I was taught in physiology - a good rule of thumb is 100 cal per mile. I tend to burn a little more than that when I'm walking and about that when I'm running (according to my HRM)
