Did my metabolism just spike?

I've been doing the alternate day diet for the past two weeks. I would eat 1400 on my high cal days and 700 on low cal days. I like it except it doesn't really fit my social life because there are some days I get chances to eat more like Fri, Sat, and Sun but since it's every other day, I had trouble dealing with the schedule. On weekdays I have no problem eating only 700 because I'm busy at school and doing homework but the weekends are tough since I'm mostly home all day or eating out. Last Saturday I was supposed to eat 700 but I had the whole day at home and was bored so I binged and actually ate 2000. I freaked out cause I didn't want to be bloated and look fat the next day. But I woke up hella thin the next day and ate 2400 cal! I totally went over my calorie allowance for the week but on Monday I still woke up thin. I continued the diet on Mon and ate 700. I ate 1400 on Tue. Every other day diet continues. Today's friday. I went to a casino buffet and ate 3000! I expected the worst since I had a super big food belly during and after the buffet. But it's several hours later now and my stomach is flat again. Does this have to do with my metabolism? Did I trick it to burn more?

I have heard that alternating calories each day helps but I haven't personally tried it yet.

So did you actually loose weight or inches during those weeks? Or did you just not gain?

I just haven't gained but it's all good because I've been overeating crazy amounts like 2500-3000 calories a day once or twice a week. My maintenance is 1200 so it's been crazy.

Maybe. I see strange results somtimes too. I thought it was my imagination but im not sure. For example, I can eat a full super sized bag of chips but not gain weight as long as I fast the next day. It might have something to do with the elevated HGH proteins during a fast.

700 calories a day is dangerously low. Why would you eat this little?
And lol at waking up still thin the day after eating 3000 calories. That's not how weight gain works.
How tall are you? Your maintenance is not 1200, no way. What calculator did you use to get to that number?

I'm only eating 700 cal every other day and twice as much the other days. It all matters about the week deficit. I seem to be losing weight this way so it's working for me. I'm trying to avoid weighing myself so often but I did a one week check in last week (after eating crazy cals) and didn't gain and have been maintaining. So I'm happy to be eating lots but not gaining. Well MFP recommends 1200 as the lowest and I'm 5'1 and 95 lb.

That averages to 1050 calories a day. I am sure you are losing weight. I am also sure you'd still lose weigh eating more than that, and get more/better nutrients.
Edit : Wait, you are 95 pounds, and looking to lose weight? You are already underweight.

This recent study also confirmed earlier findings about the effects of fasting on human growth hormone (HGH), a metabolic protein. HGH works to protect lean muscle and metabolic balance, a response triggered and accelerated by fasting. During the 24-hour fasting periods, HGH increased an average of 1,300 percent in women, and nearly 2,000 percent in men.

You probably don't know this but HGH proteins helps burn fat and grow muscles. Feel free to google more on HGH proteins. You produce HGH proteins during your sleep, intense exercises, and fasting.

But she isn't cutting few calories, she's only averaging 1050 a day! If she was eating 700 on day, then 2500 the other day, then she'd at least be averaging 1600

I have small-boned genetics so I don't weigh much. My body works differently. I look thin when I'm 95 lbs or less, anything over I look fat. But either way I'm eating and not starving myself, 1200 cal is good for a short person like me.

That's what I thought about the 1050 average but then I began to overeat and not gain so I don't know what eating pattern to follow now.

Your maintenance is probably higher than what you think it is, which is leading to you eating 3000 calories in one meal.

My maintenance is right around 1200, maybe even 1150. I know so because I tried 1410 every day for a month and I gained weight too quickly. Then I lowered to 1300 and that didnt work. I tried 1200 and it's been fine. I don't exercise except go for long walks.

I'm not averaging 1050 day. I've been consistent with 1200 a day for a year until I find myself constantly overeating. I looked around and found this fasting stuff just recently. I drew up a plan about the 700/1400 alternate diet but followed it for only a week until I overate again. During my overeating (and after alternate fasting for 1 week), I think I may have raised up my metabolism. I don't know if this is long term though. So that's why I came here to ask about the correlation between fasting and higher metabolism.

Okay, than what will happen to her if she continues to eat at 1000 calories granted that one day she eats at maintenance and the next she goes half that? Do you have any studies that says averaging 1000 calories will kill her or maybe a paper to starvation mode? I don't know what you are trying to get at by pointing that out. I however, managed to pull up a lot of studies, while the jury "may" still be out on that research. At least one of the research papers has the backing of 22 hospitals. What do you have?

On paper I may be 95 lb, but if you saw me in person, I actually look 105-110. I carry a lot of weight on my face, stomach, and thighs plus being so short makes me look fatter than I am. I don't like weighing myself so I judge using the mirror.

  • I have small-boned genetics so I don't weigh much. My body works differently.

Have you EVER taken a biology class. Bodies don't just "work differently" like that.

1 lb = 3500 calories, yes. But you burn your BMR based on age, height, weight, bf%, and activity level, so she's not storing all 3500 calories, and wouldn't have gained a pound - especially if she's been undereating so severely with an average of 1050.

Are you doing any resistance exercises? You don't have to lift weights. You can do pushups and situps. Someone your size will see results really fast.

Edit: Okay i saw, you're 5'1 :) Anyway. I personally don't think you need to cut any more weight. you might lose your boobies but the decision is ultimately up to you.
