Hi im new to mfp as i have been trying to lose the weight on my own by counting calories by using an app, so far i have done very well, and lost 3 stone since January. I have been eating above bmr and below tdee exercising 6 days a week doing Josie Gibson 30 seconds slim dvd and Gillian Michaels 30 day shred and i have to be honest it worked really well. I am eating the correct foods aswell.

So now i have hit the dreaded plateau!!! Been on it for nearly 1 month now and beginning to get disheartened, I will not give up as i want to carry on being healthy and i really want to reach my goal but not seeing scale move at all or even going up 1lb and losing that 1 lb over and over is getting frustrating. I have tried having a few days off from exercise in order for my body to recover that didnt help, i've tried eating more calories and less neither works, i have also tried having a few bad foods as suggested by alot of people i know in order to kick start metabolisim but NO that hasn't worked either. Please can any one give me any ideas or ways to get past this horrible plateau. I still have 2 stone to lose and expected to hit plateau closer to goal weigh.

Forgot to say been trying to avoid high salt as i know it makes you hold onto water.

Thanks

  • Decrease food intake by 10% (minimize one meal like lunch or something) increase intake of water and stop eating at least 3-4 hours before you go to bed, thats what got me out of my plateau, i just replaced breakfast with a smoothie, got out of it after 3 days.. but my best tip is to stop weighing yourself everyday and rather do it every week, progress goes much faster if you do it on a weekly basis, i weigh myself every friday morning and lose at least 1-2 kilos per week.. Good luck! :)

person I was up the exercise eg if you do 30 mins on a bike, try this

    1 min medium pace
    30 sec fast pace
    1 min medium pace
30 secfast pace and so on

not sure what exercise you do however you can do this with running, walking, treadmill, rower

since the plateau, has you body shape changed?

try not to eat the same foods day in day out, change it up

    eg
breakfast one day egg on toast, another day cereal, milk and fuit, another toast and peanut butter

do the same for lunch change it up every day

hey good luck and let me know how you get on

    anyone can add me

I must say i do struggle getting enough water down me i always have, but will try increase it. I never eat after 6pm at latest. The exercise i do is home dvds of high intenstity interval training. Typical day of food for me is morning tea skimmed milk no sugar with 1/2 cup porridge with 1/2 cup of skimmed milk handful of fruit i.e blueberries/strawberries or a bananna with 15ml of honey. Lunch varies either bean on toast or dry scrambled egg made with just the egg or jacket potato with tuna n extra light mayo 1tbs. Tea could be fish and salad or some sort of meat with salad or veg. I also tend to struggle eating 5-6 meals as don't get chance with 2 young kids so tend to stick to breakfast lunch and tea.
I will give it a go cutting 10% out my calories atm are 1680 my bmr is 1550 and my tdee based on light exerecise is 2170. The exercise i do burns around 164 cals per 20 mins. Am i doing something wrong???
