Severely restricting increases water retention. Having a 'refeed' releases that water weight much of the time. You would not have seen any appreciable impact on your metabolism which was then immediately apparent on the scale in that short a time.0

Bumping because I want to know the OP's weight in the profile pic (which looks pretty healthy to me).
I find all the stuff about eating less and longevity fascinating, but I do worry that it is open to abuse as an excuse to severely undereat.0 -
Seriously OP, maybe try and think about accepting yourself as you are or try some body recomposition rather than further weight loss, as purely judging from your profile you do not need to lose any weight. You already look very thin.
I do not like this trend that seems to be going on in MFP right now. Young women who are already very thin asking for advice on how to lose weight. You need to change your thinking, not your weight. Train, lift weights, eat well, but stop obsessing about imagined fat on your *kitten* that just isn't there. Life is too short to waste the best years of your life worrying about things that aren't there.0 -

Also did you notice how many times the word "may" was used while referencing possible benefits of IF? That "may" usually means that the research was inconclusive.
Okay, than what will happen to her if she continues to eat at 1000 calories granted that one day she eats at maintenance and the next she goes half that? Do you have any studies that says averaging 1000 calories will kill her or maybe a paper to starvation mode? I don't know what you are trying to get at by pointing that out. I however, managed to pull up a lot of studies, while the jury "may" still be out on that research. At least one of the research papers has the backing of 22 hospitals. What do you have?

Any of the supposed benefits one gets from IF will be inconsequential if one isn't getting the proper fuel and nutrients to produce hormones such as HGH and IGF1.
OP I have zero problem with IF as it appears to work for alot of people (not me I can't go 2 hours without shoving something in my face) I just wish you'd bump your intake up a bit. Also, from looking at your profile picture I think that you're already quite thin. My suggestion would be to eat at maintenance and strength train to improve your body composition.0 -

I believe it is called chronic undereating followed by a binge because you body is lacking in vital nutrients and calories to function properly.
Maybe just eat 1800 cals a day as that is what you average out at anyway.0 -

That averages to 1050 calories a day. I am sure you are losing weight. I am also sure you'd still lose weigh eating more than that, and get more/better nutrients.

I have small-boned genetics so I don't weigh much. My body works differently. I look thin when I'm 95 lbs or less, anything over I look fat. But either way I'm eating and not starving myself, 1200 cal is good for a short person like me.
That's what I thought about the 1050 average but then I began to overeat and not gain so I don't know what eating pattern to follow now.

You are only 19 years old - 1200 wouldn't be you maintainance even if you're short and small boned. So long as you do exercise a few times a week I imaine your maintainance would be more like 1500 at least. To be honest I think you'll have trouble losing weight because you are very slim already and on quite a low calorie intake. you should try upping your calories and just eating normally for a while and I doubt you will gain any weight. Intermittent fasting has some benefits if you are overweight but as you are young and slim I wouldn't recommend it as you could end up screwing up your metabolism and also messing with your head. At 95 pounds just go out with your friends and don't worry about food! As long as you don't binge (which you won't if you eat normally as your body won't be desperate for food) you won't gain weight. So thats why I said my body's different. I would like to look like that again but I don't want to be 82 lb again.0 -
Um, you can eventually eat 1800 calories a day, with a proper reset of your metabolism. Bingeing comes from a number of things, which includes restriction and/or nutrient deficiencies.
Like you, I had been on a restrictive diet. I upped my calories..I did have a temporary weight gain, but I only after was I able to lose weight.
I eat around 1800, and on more intense workout days upwards of 2000..I'm also your height and around your weight.
Don't worry about the temporary gain and up the cals a bit.0 -

So thats why I said my body's different. I would like to look like that again but I don't want to be 82 lb again.
Do you lift weights?
You can maintain a higher weight but look as lean in a much healthier manner if you do some strength training.
I would suggest that you slowly up your calories, by small but regular increments and start on a good progressive lifting program. Do not try to do any form of IF (I have no issues with IF, I just do not think it a good idea for you).0 -

Funny thing. I just canceled my membership after joining for two months. I did nothing but cardio cause I was intimated by the different equipments and the people there. So I just ran/walk on the treadmills for 45-60 min 4-5 times a week and upped my calories to 1600 so I could net 1200. I was actually gaining weight and looked worse. It wasnt muscle weight cause I didnt lift/took protein. Since it didnt work, I just decided that my body isn't accustomed to eating that much every day even if I did burn some of it. I tried fasting and it did the trick, something like I hit a plateau and needed this get over it. I do have some elements of IF, my window is 1pm to 9pm which i didn't mention.
It seems like I'm taking the easy way out to lose weight. I would like to follow the eat clean train hard trend but it's so much effort.0 -
700 calories a day is dangerously low. Why would you eat this little?
And lol at waking up still thin the day after eating 3000 calories. That's not how weight gain works.

Interestingly women don't seem to benefit from Intermittent fasting as much as men

OP - I think you should talk to someone about your weight and body image - 95lbs and still wanting to lose isn't good - it sounds like you've screwed your metabolism and have a very distorted view on what you look like.
You have taken several different diets and glued them together to basically starve your body. Please get help.0 -

My point was that if I looked healthy (no need to lose, no need to gain) in that picture at 85 lbs then at over 95 lb (since I'm trying to stay around here), I'm not liking what I see in the mirror. That 10 lbs goes to my face and stomach, which are really noticeable areas.
Imagine adding 10 lbs of not muscle to your frame, you'd look noticeably different.0 -

Start easing your way into it so it is no so 'intimidating' - both the upping the calories and the strength training.
There are some pretty good programs where you do not need any equipment that you can do at home.

Thyroid hormone secretion is measured in WEEKS not days, so if you over eat one day, the only "metabolism spike" your gonna have is the TEF from all the extra proteins and carbohydrates and if your lucky some MCT's0

At your weight? Yes. In fact, I heavily recommend adding 10lbs of muscle.0 -

If I was eating under 1200, I'd be appreciative of people telling me to quit harming myself.
By the way, I'm 5'1 and I'm focusing on health and body fat % over a scale #. OP, I suggest you maybe get into lifting and quit trying to starve yourself. Seriously. 95lbs is the lowest lowest lowest point for people our height before we hit underweight. Then again, I'm wondering what your body fat % really is. Can you post pictures so we can see why you feel the need to keep losing? Personally, I think you either have body image issues or you need to focus a lot on weight training (aka heavy lifting) to work with your body composition.0 -
I've been doing the alternate day diet for the past two weeks. I would eat 1400 on my high cal days and 700 on low cal days. I like it except it doesn't really fit my social life because there are some days I get chances to eat more like Fri, Sat, and Sun but since it's every other day, I had trouble dealing with the schedule. On weekdays I have no problem eating only 700 because I'm busy at school and doing homework but the weekends are tough since I'm mostly home all day or eating out. Last Saturday I was supposed to eat 700 but I had the whole day at home and was bored so I binged and actually ate 2000. I freaked out cause I didn't want to be bloated and look fat the next day. But I woke up hella thin the next day and ate 2400 cal! I totally went over my calorie allowance for the week but on Monday I still woke up thin. I continued the diet on Mon and ate 700. I ate 1400 on Tue. Every other day diet continues. Today's friday. I went to a casino buffet and ate 3000! I expected the worst since I had a super big food belly during and after the buffet. But it's several hours later now and my stomach is flat again. Does this have to do with my metabolism? Did I trick it to burn more?
