I am convinced tha the only sure way to lose weight is to burn off more calories than you consume. Heard that on orpah from Dr. Oz and Bob Greene. And my Dr. so we should all remember that we have to burn it off if we eat it. If anyone else has an opinion feel free to share with the group. Sure we can all use as much help as we can get.

I just don't know how to do that without starving.
I mean I try to eat less calories and workout but at the end of the day, I have no energy and I'm hungry.
Anyone has any suggestion, please I'm all ears.

you have to rememeber that on average your body is burning 1000-1200 calories just to get your heart to beat and body to function.
you should never eat less then 900 calories 2-3 days staright because your body will go into starvation mode and you will not lost anything.

    Hi, Jooly:
Although you are staying within your daily goal, you are probably not timing the type of food correctly. I've been reading some fitness articles, and my understanding is that you should take more carbs early in the day to energize your activities, and more protein later in the day to build muscles AND burn body fat. If you want, email me your daily goals (calories/carbs/fat/protein) assigned by myfitnesspal and what time of the day that you workout (eg. evening). I will volunteer to allocate the calories in your meals. If it doesn't work for you after a couple weeks, just call me *kitten* and move on. How does that sound?

  • The calorie counter I have says since I excercised I have *bonus* calories to consume. Isn't this counter-productive? I thought the idea was to burn more calories than you're taking in, and if you're *allowed* to take in the calories you already burned, doesn't that nullify your exercise? Please advise. :)

    Quinn2816,

    I was thing that too.
Everytime I enter my food and then enter my exercise, my calorie goal goes up.
Is that an ok to eat more or should I just stay in my 1200?

Eat More ! ! ! Your body needs 1200 calories just to keep your basic body functions going with no added exercise.

When you exercise, you are taking calories AWAY from basic metabolic needs. So always eat those "bonus" calories when they are given. You will also feel very tired, and headachy and UN-motivated if you don't eat those extra calories. I know it seems counter-intuitive - but your body will think it is starving, and it is!

I am eating 6-meals-a-day. When I exercise (every other day) I am given from 200-300 extra calories to eat on my daily log. I ALWAYS eat those calories (one day I had 102 calories left unused). On the days I know I have exercise, I load up on "fast"carbs before I exercise such as fruit, or hot chocolate, or both right before I exercise. I have more energy for my workout and feel better. You need to give your body the calories it needs or you won't be able to exercise hard enough to make a difference and raise your metabolic rate and therefore lose weight. A "stroll" is not good for burning calories, you need to time your miles and try to increase speed AND distance.

I lost 7 pounds in 8 days - I didn't believe - but now I do. I think this will slow down as soon as my body catches on. I set my goals for 1200 calories and weight loss of 2 pounds per week with 30 minute cardio 3 times a week.

Go to Motivation & Support and read the post by joeytoribio from June 07- you'll have to scroll down a ways. It was very helpful to me. I copy/pasted it into a word doc so I could reference it frequently until I truly GET it.

2 years ago: I ate "everything in moderation", about 2500 cals/day. I exercised constantly. I was obese and soft.

Now: I eat primal/paleo foods (real whole ingredient foods with low glycemic index), about 4000 calories per day. I always eat until I am full and I am never hungry. I exercise WAY WAY less and have plenty of energy. I am skinny. And jacked.

2 years ago vs now. That's my suggestion in a nutshell.

I'm guessing 2007 was before Dr. Oz sold his soul to the devil. And whichever sponsor he has to satisfy...
