Heavy lifting has

Made me a better swimmer.
Made me a faster runner.
Made me a stronger cyclist.
Made me stronger in general.
Changed how I look.
Made it easier to do things in every day life (pick things up, move things around, etc)
Helped with my confidence/ego.

I may not enjoy lifting for the sake of lifting, but I can't argue with the results.

Awesome post!! It amazes me how many people (men and women alike) are still afraid to get down and really lift heavy. I too have see great improvement in running speed, general strength, improved appearance and improved self confidence. I'll also add a few more of my own if you don't mind:

    Heavy lifting has...

    Eliminated my back pain
Given me a six-pack for the first time in my life
Helped me meet new people (at the gym I mean)
Inspired others to follow the same life changing steps I have

    Nice!

I haven't started heavy lifting yet, although I really want to! I have a question - where does "light" ends and "heavy" begins when it comes to lifting? HL for women isn't popular in my country and the trainers at my local gym don't really want to help me here...

Generally, when you can more than 8-10 reps it's not considered heavy. It's not a number, it's not a weight, it's an effort. If you max out at 5 or 6 reps, then yea... that's heavy.

Heavy lifting has made my husband a sexy beast and has greatly improved the quantity and quality of bedroom time (and I'm not talking sleeping).

Oh, and heavy lifting for me has made me healthier overall too.

I just started in January ...

    Heavy lifting has:

Given me self confidence I never knew existed
Given me self worth I never knew existed
Helped my posture and my lower back injury
Got me out of bed at 7am every morning, for the first time in my life.

I am addicted. I love lifting.

    - Made me a stronger dancer (better balance, higher jumps/leaps).
    - Made me want to live in sleeveless shirts!
    - Made me not care about the weight on the scale.
    - Made me feel good about getting stares as I'm in the squat rack on the "boys side" of the gym.
    - Made me feel like a BAMF all around!

    Lifting heavy has:

    - Given me something to look forward to
    - Given me an outlet for practicing some of my core values about endurance and strength
    - Given me a strong, fit body that I can be proud of

    - The women... they notice these things and are vocal about their appreciation lol
