Trying to get a wheat belly

So... I'm away from home for months now, and I have no access to my usual brown sticky rice. Lack of complex carbs from the resulting paleo style diet (plus dairy) has left me with slow recovery times in the area that matters most, which is my voice.
I'm officially back on bread now, as my main source of carbs. On top of that, I'm eating maintenance level caloric intake.
I've been steadily leaning out since November, so if the claims are correct, I should now expect to become all paunchy and fat. In a month I will post a new pic, since my current pic is right around when I started eating wheat again every day.
Predictions?

So you're saying that it's a calorie surplus which is the ultimate determinant of fat gain rather than one particular food stuff?
Thank you Captain Obvious.0 -
What?
I've been told repeatedly that I can't make any headway or lose fat if I eat wheat. I find these arguments weak compared to calories in, calories out, and since it's hard to avoid wheat right now I figure why not test it.
It's an uncontrolled experiment.0 -

So do you have a prediction?0

I predict you'll turn into bread.0

So do you have a prediction?
It won't make a meaningful difference unless you have an intolerance which you haven't told us.
If you do have an intolerance it will make sticking to a deficit much harder meaning you will probably fall off and have poor results.
Good luck but I predict very few people will actually care what happens.0 -
Oh my goodness don't do it! Any sort of carb will not only completely stop your ability to lose weight but also cause the fat gained to be completely centered in your stomach! Have you read Wheat Belly? Bread is the main reason why Americans are overweight, and everyone is going about this the wrong way.
If we just got rid of bread, we could all live off of fast food and be skinny with 6 packs.
Try it, eat one cheeseburger with the bun and it will make you twice as bloated and gain twice as much weight as if you had four cheeseburgers with no bum!0 -

No intolerance that I know of. I do have to take beano with the bread.
I'd rather stick to my brown rice, but I am on the road so I don't have total control. Priority one is to be singing well in auditions. Lack of starches was really messing with that.
But it also struck me as potentially useful to have an answer to these wheat belly posts, even though it's just anecdotal.0 -

That kind of sucks.
What about quinoa, potatoes, yams or white rice especially centred around your workout times? Do you have access to those foods?0 -

I do, and t the moment I have a kitchen, but because of my work I will often be in a situation where I have no kitchen. It's a combo of figuring out how to deal with the road, being annoyed about no sticky brown rice, and being very curious about all these claims about wheat. What really got me interested was that over here (Germany), I hear from people that meat makes you fat, and the way to avoid that is to focus on bread and pasta. I don't see any consistency across the two cultures in terms of actual advice, but in both cases the authority behind the, carries the same weight. Which makes me suspect its arbitrary and cultural.
I am generally eating all of this bread immediately after workouts and I more or less follow the leangains protocol. I have my TRX, my speed rope, and resistance bands so I can push myself hard on strength workouts.0 -

Lean red meat is a good source of protein...and too much bread isn't great for your body.0 -
My favorite foods:
Brown rice
Fruit
Veg
Meat
Again, this isn't about taking a stance (though I stated my bias), it's about testing it on a single subject and seeing if the sky does indeed fall on my head, and figuring out how I can work this career without looking like most of the other people who live my lifestyle.
There is a reason opera singers get fat, and if you've ever tried living on the road you know how the game changes when you have no gym and your food choices are limited. I'm trying to build my skills up and adapt to what is instead of complaining.
Beef is just too expensive here, and pork loin is close in price to good beef back in America.0 -

I think you will be fine in all honesty. Carbs after a heavy workout alongside a protein source is a terrific idea for nutrient uptake.
I wouldn't worry about the idea you have to avoid meat and prefer pasta etc - it is arbitrary and cultural as you say. Ultimately it's about energy balance but remember that in a calorie deficit protein requirements actually rise. Whether you get the protein from meat is up to you and your personal preferences though. That is why decent fat loss programmes have a hierarchy as follows: set calories, set protein level, set fat level, carbs make up the rest.
Good luck!
ETA: if you are eating at maintenance it is less important if you are sedentary. If you are active it still needs to remain high but not so much as when you are in a calorie deficit.0 -

That's my prediction as well.
I have whey, and oddly, turkey breast is cheap and easy to get here. I'm eating just around maintenance calories.0 -

This^ is what gives me no hope...

Also, I forgot to add. ALL carbs will make you fat. Fruits and vegetables are carbs, so I stay away from those as well as brown rice. Goodness! I look at a watermelon and feel the pounds piling on.0 -

If I weigh myself after eating a couple pounds of watermelon I'm always heavier than before. So it's true!0

it depends.. Personally if I eat wheat I get bloated, but I have an allergy to Wheat, corn and oats.
lots of people eat wheat without having issues. Good luck!0 -
So far, no wheat belly. But I have lost some body fat due to running a deficit again.0
