I love, love super dark, dark chocolate... my newest LOVE is THEO brand chocolate... I love their 85% bar and limit myself to 1/2 -1 oz per day.... I particularly like it because it tastes great and doesnt have soy lethecin (sp?) in it.. avoiding soy these days
  • Anyone know exactly what I should look for and where to get it? Does it need to be a certain percentage of cocoa solids? Something like that?

Try Green & Black's Organic Dark Chocolate 85%
It also melts well in microwave making it easy to drizzle over snacks.

I've had THEO. It is very good. It's just a little bit pricier than Green and Black or Vintage Plantation in the store where I get them.

I like Ghiradelli, Scharffenberger (sp?), and Valrhona.

I buy Ghiradelli 60% dark chocolate chips and let them melt in my mouth one by one. They're convenient, they take some time to eat if you do it this way, and a couple of chips is good to kill my appetite for an hour or so.

So I love chocolate and I've heard that eating a few pieces of really good quality dark chocolate can satisfy a craving. Anyone know exactly what I should look for and where to get it? Does it need to be a certain percentage of cocoa solids? Something like that?

I want it to be the kind that melts right when it hits your mouth

I go with 80% Scharffenberger when I want something super sweet. Otherwise, I tend to eat 90% or 100% cacao from a boutique vendor called Hotel Chocolat. Economical, and really good quality.

If I want to splurge though, I'll pick up a 75%-85% Rey Sol, if and when I can actually find it.

Lindt 99% Cocoa: Cocoa Noir. It comes in big bars that you can break into the individual squares to eat on any given day.

I'm bumping this because I totally love chocolate, but hadn't figured that I could have it so reading this makes me happy :) I'll definitely be trying some of these :) I did buy a dark chocolate, but its 54% would that still be considered "eh" or is it okay?

If you like it, it's more than okay. All things in moderation.

If your looking for a chocolate fix.. I like to have a chocolate chunk vitatop.. it's a big chocolate fix and only 100 calories with protein to boot! My 5 year old eats it for breakfast and I eat them as an indulgent snack to fix my chocolate cravings.

Lindt has some nice dark chocolate--70% and 85%. Green and Black's 85% is also lovely. I only eat a couple squares of these at a time and my chocolate craving is satisfied.
  • Loveee dark chocolate..I think 70% is what you're supposed to shoot for. But I eat anything chocolate lol

My favourite is Charbonnel et Walker (http://www.charbonnel.co.uk/), pricy but worth it. I also like Green & Blacks who also do the best chocolate ice cream.

I haven't yet been able to acquire the taste of 80 or 90% dark chocolate, but I did come across two 70% ones that I not only liked but just a few pieces really does satisfy better than the milk chocolate. I buy Dove Promises and Hershey Bliss. You can find them at any convenient store or Walmart.

I still LOVE milk chocolate but when I eat it, it is never enough. I can genuinely eat just a few of these dark chocolates and feel like I met my craving. I can eat more of it and enjoy it, but it doesn't feel as necessary as if I haven't had enough.

    Yep, I've converted.

I think he Bliss version is just slightly creamier in texture but they are both good.

Answering, but maybe slightly off topic considering that everyone else is going with the candy bar type of post..............I have had a cup of hot cocoa every. single. day. since I started and lost 20lbs. in 16 weeks so you CAN have chocolate and lose weight. Hershey's Cocoa 100% cacao natural unsweetened (look with the baking products)...........1Tablespoon is only 10 cals. Use skim milk, adjust sugar to your liking (I use 1 tsp.)............you can make it as dark or as light as you want.........or add a drop or two of almond, orange, or other flavoring. A little over 100cals.
knowing I can have this keeps me from binging on junk.
