From mom: think twice before you say something and then don't say it.

    From dad: save your money.

From both: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.

From my Dad: There is nothing you cannot do if you put your mind to it!

Sadly Dad is gone now but I remember this advice every time I think, "I can't do that!" So I step up and give it my best shot, and you know what, other than singing which is NOT my thing at all, he's always been correct!!!

Don't make promises you can't keep.

Birds of a feather flock together.

Keep your mouth shut if you don't have anything nice to say.

The best advice from my dad was not to waste my money on university and get a job instead. I, uh, ignored that advice.

From my beautiful mother: "if you aren't sure about something, ask yourself if I would approve... If the answer is no, then don't do it"

Wish I thought about that a bit more before I married my first husband...

I received lots of good advice from my parents, but one thing stuck with me. It was a little thing at the time, but it expanded to how I feel about my life in general. They always suggested I take my own car when going out with my friends. That way I was sure to be able to take care of my own way home. I can remember a few evenings that were just miserable when I was depending on others for rides. It expanded into - you are responsible for your own life, don't depend on others to take care of all your needs.
