Who else uses a food scale?

Just got mine and I am so happy with it, it's great to cut the guess work out of how much you eat of any given thing. I am sure there are many people who think they are eating a 4oz piece of chicken and its really 7...

Who else uses one?

Though I would draw the line at taking it with me to restaurants (!!), I have been using mine on a daily basis since the beginning. I've gotten REALLY good at estimating 28g of almonds or tortilla chips :)

I use a food scale, measuring cups, and measuring spoons for everything--except greens and garnishes. The difference between 2 and 2.5 cups of mixed greens isn't worth the effort of measuring. Same thing with a cilantro or (light) sesame seed garnish, etc.

Scale for everything outside of liquids, raw/precooked weights if possible. Do some comparisions even with prepacked food/meals and you will be shocked at how innaccurate measuring and/or eyeballing things is.

I cringe when I go to enter the weight for an apple and see hundreds of entry's that state sizes like "medium", "large", etc. Not at all accurate and a major factor in some peoples limited success.

Outside of a bodyweight scale that I actually fit on, I credit the food scale as the best tool I purchased for weight loss.

I am sure some people are great guesstimating, but I was WAY WAY WAY off. Now that I have used the scale since November I am much better at estimating weights, but I still use the scale every time I am at home.

I also recently got a small digital measuring spoon...but it measures by weight. I love it for things like spices and oil. Seems pretty accurate.

I totally do! I fell in love with mine when I discovered that I get more potatoes than I originally thought! I love Ruby potatoes and the bag I buy them in says that 120 g or approximately 7 potatoes are XXX amount of calories.. Well I weighed 7 potatoes and it was barely half of 120g!! A scale makes you much more accurate in your caloric intake. I love mine.

    I use a food scale.
    You should too.
    Everyone should have one.
Your eyeballs are a horrible measurement system.
    You should read this:

I've had one forever, before MFP because my son has type 1 diabetes.

For fat loss, a food scale is more important than a bodyweight scale.

YES and IMO anyone who is SERIOUS about weight loss should also. If you have a CVS Pharmacy around you, they sell digital scales for $9.99. They dont have to be expensive ones. Ive had mine for 310 days & it hasnt even needed a battery change!

At first, i didnt understand the NEED for one.. i also didnt understand the need for a liquid vs dry measuring cup... i think that also should be addresses because there IS a difference!

    Good luck to everyone! =)

I use my digital food scale daily to weigh everything! I love that I know exactly how much I am eating, accuracy is key! Prior to purchasing my food scale my guesstimates were way off!

I use mine ALL the time, I have done away with measuring cups, I have found they are not accurate either, except for liquids!! I weigh everything!!!

I religiously weigh and measure my food. It helps to give you a good idea of portion size and also helps when I eat out if I can't get the calories on line, I can guess at the size/portion and log that way. It is so helpful to weigh and measure food!

I love mine. I don't use it religiously, but I do use it whenever I'm eating something different & I need to get an idea of what I'm eating.

Digital measuring spoon? WHERE did you find that? I want one!

Best tool ever. The food scale and measuring cups/spoons make it so easy to stay on track. I eat nothing outside of portion anymore.

I can not cook without mine. Best $6 I ever spent.

Someone else said they wouldn't take it into restaurants, but I think this is actually a great idea (when appropriate)! I might sneak mine in with me when I can. (Let's see if my husband takes me out to eat after that, though... haha).

I do and I love it! I use it for everything so that I know exactly what I'm putting in my body. When I buy things at the store, before I put things away, I divide everything up in snack bags based on one serving size so I can grab one serving quickly without being tempted to overindulge. It has really changed my awareness of how much I eat.
