flavored water

I know how important water is, and as hard as I try I can never get my water in. I don't hate it. It is just boring to me and has no taste. Unless I'm working out or parched, I don't or can't drink alot of water unless it's got some flavor. Does anyone have any opinions about Crystal Light "on the go" packets for flavoring my water? They still count towards my water intake, right?

I have been looking into ways to flavor my water naturally, with lemons, but don't know the best way to do this (literally), and it seems like it'd get kind of expensive.

crystal light's "pure" line is made with stevia. but all the rest of the line is made with aspertame. yuck !! I would stick with the pure line or I use "True Lemon" brand Lemon, orange or raspberry lemonade. I can usually get 6 glasses of plain water in but after that I need a little help...

Gingersnap, google it. try the ones that sound the best to you.

I don't think boring is bad. It's fuel, not entertainment.

I prefer to get a pitcher of water and add a fruit to it like strawberries, orange slices, lemon, cucumber, etc. Also, I would look into making pitchers of herbal iced tea to help you reach your water goal. :)
  • Thank you all :) I will give some of these a try.

    i was a soda fiend.

i know use a sodastream, but buy the zero calorie (unsweetened) all natural fruit flavors (lime, raspberry, orange, etc). took me a little bit to get used to it, but it's perfect. i get my water, i get my 'soda' fix, and it's healthy. (it's also great at making soda, but... off limits for now).

I came across a bunch of recipes that were floating around facebook. My favorite one had strawberries and lime in it.

    10 cups water
    6 Strawberries; sliced
    1 lime; thinly sliced

    Let sit overnight & serve.

The other one I did was Cucumber & Lemon:

    10 cups water
    1 cucumber; sliced
    1 lemon; thinly sliced

    Let sit overnight & serve.

I try to stay away from any of the flavored water that comes in a packet (Crystal Light, etc). Making my own seemed the easiest and healthiest way to go.

I recently did one, which is similar to MommaChocoLat's recipes...

    8-10 cups of water
    1 lime, sliced
    1 cucumber, sliced
1/3 cup mint leaves (or however much to taste)

    Fridge overnight and serve.

I basically made a batch and let it sit overnight. It became rather concentrated after 2 nights, so I then do a 50/50 concentrate to new water. It's been great. I just pour it into a water bottle and take it with me when I head out for the day. If you need it to stay colder, throw a few ice cubes in it.

Its probably the same recipe.. lol. The original recipes I have called for fresh mint and also basil in the cucumber one but I left them out bc my grocery store only sold prepackaged ($$$$). But I do exactly the same as you with the water and the water bottles when I take it to work with me!

There are a good number of "only plain water counts" people on MFP. But ask yourself this question: "Does this glass contain less water after I add Crystal Light?" Then decide for yourself.

I really like the Propel Zero packets. I hate Crystal Light and I've done my best to eliminate artificial food dyes from my diet so those and the mio are out.

Have you considered growing your own herbs? We have them growing in our backyard... mint, rosemary and what not... makes for a more financially viable option/solution.

I would if we had our own house but right now we are in an apt that doesnt get much light.. which sucks for plants :( We will be (with any luck) moving out of here with in the next year though so it may be an option pretty soon!

I love ice cold HINT water. They come in a variety of flavors with no additives or sugars just natural flavor. They are pricey but GOOD.

Also, as a recovering soda junkie I now drink Adirondack or Vintage seltzer water. Yet get your bubbles (citric acid) and a variety of flavors with no no additives or sugars just natural flavor. Drinking flavored seltezer water is like a two for one!

I also like the Propel packets when I can find them because the taste isn't as strong as the Crystal Light, and I don't like the sweeteners in CL (aspartame).

Thank you all for the ideas, and recipes!! They will come in handy! :)

Drinking water can be an acquired taste. Keep a water bottle on your desk as a reminder. I find I drink more water if I use a Brita water filter pitcher that I keep in the fridge. The water is always cold ..... yum!
