What would be on your day's itinerary?

let's say a friend or relative from out of town was due in this weekend and you had to plan a day taking them around, showing them the sights, and giving them a feel for what it's like in your little corner of the world... what would you plan for them? (assume that your visitor has never been where you are before, so every experience would be new to them).

for example, somebody from NYC might want to take a visitor to the Empire State Building or a local museum, followed by a lunch at the Carnegie Deli and a visit to Central Park, and an evening at Yankee Stadium or catching a Broadway show. there's obviously much more to do and see in NYC than that, but if you only had one day, that would be a good day in NYC for somebody from out of town.

what would you plan for a visitor from out of town visiting you for one day?

There's not a lot around here but I'd probably try to take them out to Cumberland Island-- it's an undeveloped barrier island with wild horses and a plantation ruin, plus some really huge seashells to be found.

    Grillin' hot wings and beer.

What happens after that will be up to the beer.

There is lots of camping and hunting here....

    Depends on who it was.

Options: Ascot racecourse, WIndsor Castle, WIndsor Great Park, Henley Regatta, Look Out Discovery Centre/Go Ape, Legoland, Thorpe Park, Coral Reef.

I do wish there were a few more museums/galleries in the area, but London is only 1 hour on the train.

i'm closer to Colorado Springs, so i'd probably plan a morning at Garden of the Gods, followed by a trip up to Manitou Springs and a ride on the cog railway to the top of Pike's Peak. then find some nice restaurant for dinner, perhaps at the Broadmoor. there's quite a bit more to do around here than that, but for just one day, that would give them lots of photographs and a good feel for the southern part of the state. there's a numismatists museum in Colorado Springs that i'd probably squeeze in too if we had time, mostly because i'd be curious to see what's on display there myself.

the summit of Pike's Peak right now looks like this...

Let's see, I would take them 4 wheeling, then a little fishing, followed up with a quick swim. Then maybe shoot a few guns, a little target practice. try and get them in for a quick workout. Followed up with some BBQ, Then we could get in the car and actually go somewhere if they wanted to ......

I think it depends on who was coming to visit. If it was someone with small children, then they'd be coming for one reason: to see The Magic Kingdom, so we would take them there. If it was someone active or a teen or twenty-something, we'd take them to the zip line over at the zoo then have a surf lesson. If it was an older person, we would probably park them either on the beach under a canopy, or beside the pool, and cook and drink good beer and wine all afternoon, then we'd go to dinner at one of the restaurants over by the Cape and watch the cruise ships go out to sea.

Hard to only have one day but here's what I have in mind:
Breakfast at one of the 10000 restaurants in my village inside the city.
    Walk/bike Monon Trail
    Gondola ride on the canal
Shopping/Lunch in artsy Massachusetts Ave. or Fountain Square
    Afternoon swim/tennis at Riviera Club
Either dinner downtown with an Indians game or Symphony on the Prairie
Back in my village at night to hit the bars
Sit out on my deck and solve the world's problems

Cr@p I really want to duck out of work early now. I blame you for this WV.:grumble:

ETA: Actually it'd be just as good to fire up the grill and skip right to the last one. That's what usually happens anyway!

Eat mexican food (cause it's awesome here)
have some margaritas on the beach
have dinner on the boardwalk for the freshest seafood they've ever had
take them to a honky tonk to dance the night away to a live country band
    get completely wasted
go get more wasted at my house with some whataburger (drunk food) cause they don't have that everywhere.

done this several times and people ALWAYS come back for more ;)

oh and if its family w. kids, take them to schlitterbahn, cause errboddy likes schlitterbahn!

Lido Lounge - The darkest, seediest strip club that there is. It's just good clean fun, kids.

Well I actually do live in NYC, but the touristy stuff is so annoying... partly depends on the person I'm entertaining (a fashionista would likely enjoy the Saks 5th Ave where the shoe department has its own zip code, whereas my sister w/ her 2-year old might prefer the Museum of Natural History).

With unlimited cash, would certainly include a dinner at Per Se. The meals I've had there are some of the highlights of my culinary life.
With more limited cash, pizza at Grimaldi's is not to be missed for those who have never experienced NYC pizza.
Maybe a walk across the Brooklyn bridge (weather permitting), and visit to the Brooklyn Brewery for some delicious beverages
Again if unlimited cash, see an opera at the Met or a show like Book of Mormon (hilarious), or with more limited cash Avenue Q (also hilarious)
Hit up some bars until 5am because... well, cuz you can.

I get in to almost all the NYC museums for free, so usually take visitors to at least a couple of those... Natural History, Met, Guggenheim, MoMA, too many to list.

The only real way to fully experience NYC is to live here for at least a couple of years, but then you'd develop the xenophobia that we all have toward the tourists and will find yourself saying things like "why are they so SLOW and take up the whole dang sidewalk? GRRRRRR!"

Start off the day with a traditional Newfoundland breakfast including toutons, go for a hike on the East Coast trail, have some homemade ice cream at Moo Moos, visit Signal Hill and Cape Spear then end the night club hopping on George Street!

    Food and Booze.

I grew up in Hawaii, I don't do much touristy stuff anymore because of it. Most of my friends are similar.

I'm also in NYC but I live in Staten Island. Staying here in this Borough I would probably go the Staten Island Zoo if their were kids involved. Maybe go see the Staten Island Yankees. A lot of our parks were destroyed by hurricane Sandy. Such a same because we have some beauties here. I would try to find a good park though, Clove Lakes Park is awesome and was untouched by the storm. It's SI"s equivalent to Manhattan's central park.

We have some great restaurants, pizza to die for and some of the bars have decent live music. Especially awesome would be if my hubby's band was playing local that night, Custard Pie, the best Zeppelin tribute band around.

For Dallas, maybe the World Aquarium.
There are hundreds of great restaurants,
and people always want to go see the house that was used in the Dallas TV series.
Other than that, I'm not really sure what tourist type things there are to do around here.
