What languages do you speak?

I thought this would be a fun thread to learn something about your friends you might not have known! :)

What languages do you speak? Where did you learn them and how well do you know them?

I speak English, obviously! I learned it because it's the language my parents speak. I speak very basic French but read it at an intermediate level, I learned it from taking French in high school. I'm also teaching myself American sign language at the moment.

Welcome!

I took Italian in high school, so like you, I can speak it on a very basic level, but I can read it on an intermediate level.

Maybe the two of you can tutor me

I speak English, obviously, and basic German (used to have a decent conversational level, but it's been several years). I can read but not understand a few West Slavic languages and Russian. It's pretty funny when you can read a sign or something and have no idea what you just said...

I took Italian classes when I lived in Rome, but yeah... I didn't put much time into them.

    Spanish, English, German and Italian.

I learnt German for college as I went to Vienna then dropped out... now I am planning to move back there.

And Italian, well I studied Classical singing for 3 years and I don't sing anything I can't understand so I studied Italian.

I guess that makes sense; Miami's pretty diverse. I'll have to keep an eye out next time I'm down there. Got to find my Swahili peeps!
