Possible Stress Fracture -- MRI

I've been diagnosed with a possible stress fracture by my Sports doctor and I go for an MRI next Wednesday (soonest I could make it work with my schedule).
I've been told that they'll inject a numbing agent into my hip and then inject the contrast into the hip as well. Now, I have a pretty severe phobia with needles and pain and it's only been in recent years where they can even come near me with a needle for blood draws and I not pass out before they touch me.
Can anyone tell me what this test is like if you've had it and if I should possibly ask for my doctor to prescribe something to me to keep me relaxed?

Also - if you've had a stress fracture -- (or a tear, which was also mentioned) what was your treatment?
I'm a runner and it's driving me nuts right now not being able to get out there.

Thanks to all in advance!

Ask for some xanax, but you wont be able to drive yourself to the appt. Get a week's worth so it can help you sleep on the night's leading up to it. Close your eyes before they roll you into the machine.

I didn't have that exact procedure, but I had one that was more disgusting. The MRI part was easy. It will be over before you know it. Good luck.

Curious why you say to close your eyes before going into the machine?

I did manage to get my dr to call me in a prescription for the Xanax but he only gave me 5 so I'll use one on Tuesday night to see how it effects me and then go from there.
It's only .25mg but having never taken it before no clue on its effects specific to me.
