NIH Body Weight Simulator

This is a program created by NIH, and it's kind of awesome. Basically, you put in your initial information, goal weight, and then it calculates calories (yes, I know similar to MFP)...buut, you can also see the effect that increased exercise or different life changes will have on your weight loss journey. It's kind of fun to play around with. Enjoy!

    Thanks - I read the article and was intrigued. But I think the website crashed because the simulator is nowhere to be found now..:-(
  • interesting, altough i cannot see if there is a way to input weight training into the calculations?

    Very interesting.

    When I started back in April, I created a spreadsheet to forecast weight. My projection (which has been very accurate so far over these 6 weeks) is close to theirs.

    For the record, here's the projected weight I derived and actual weight at historical data points.

    We both use Mifflin-St Jeor. The difference is due to their tool doesn't allow for enough fine-tuning of TDEE due to exercise. That's not a criticism, it's just that their exercise options don't have an option that accurately reflects what I'm doing.

    Their model is far more sophisticated than mine, I have to grant that. You won't find any differential equations in my spreadsheet.

    One minor complaint, I don't seem to be able to save input data between sessions. Oh well.

    Anyway, thanks for the link OP. I'd give you pos rep if this site had such a feature.

    Interesting tool, but unfortunately too optimistic for me. I don't lose weight that fast!
