Hello everyone.
I am 5' 2" and currently 137 lbs. I was told that regular trips to the bathroom can help or speed weight loss plus it is just over all healthy for the body. Ever since i can remember myself i was always constipated. I intake aprox 20-25g of fiber a day, drink planty of fluid and excercise everyday (cardio/strength straining) but no matter what i do i can't do my "thing" every day like other people. I usually go every 2-4 days.
Please if any of you have any advice how to fix my problem, share your knowledge.
Thanks

as oat bran, barley, nuts, beans and some fruits and vegetables. Insoluble fiber speeds up the passage of foods and adds bulk to the stool. These can be found in wheat bran, vegetables and whole grains and will best aid in keeping your bowel movements regular0

Once every 3 days is the acceptable smallest frequency for BMs so every 2-3 days isnt that bad although not going for 4 days could be an issue. I've read that too much fiber can actually cause constipation so try lowering it and see if that helps at all.0

Lentil/coffee milkshake.
You are welcome.0 -
I was a regular every 2nd day person for the longest time. For me, it's what I'm eating. The more junk, the longer it takes. If I go awhile without eating a few almonds a day I find that affects me. Nuts, berries, apples and water are things to at least help (I've read this on several websites, sorry I can't link).
I'm sure you'll get more responses to help.0 -
Have you considered skinny-me-tea? I am lead to believe it'll have you going within six hours.
Aside from that the visuals: prune juice, more water, whole grains.0 -
Taking certain fiber sometimes makes it worse for me. 5 cups of veggies, and 2 fruits every day seems to fix this issue, but I can't always get it in so I use Chia/Flax blend called Decent Blend from Spectrum...really good if you like Coconut and Cocoa.
Also before you go to bed and first thing in the morning drink a cup of hot water with the juice of 1/2 lemon. This really works wonders. I think it is because the bowels absorb warm water faster than cold water and the lemon has highly absorbent vitamin C which makes you go...
Oh and I totally forgot the most important thing...take fizzy magnesium supplement before bed . I use something called Calm. This stuff clears you out...seriously can't go wrong with it. Most women need more magnesium in their diet to balance the calcium.0 -
Senna tea at night.0

For me, my BM's became super regular at once a day every single morning once I became a vegetarian and started eating lots of fresh veggies (especially asparagus!). Not sure how many veggies you eat on a daily basis, but maybe adding more would help.0

Interesting. I will try that tonight.0 -
I began taking Magnesium-Oxide 400 mg per day and this keeps me regular.0

Okay, I'm a nurse so these questions might be TMI but...
Are you straining?
Having a difficult time pushing it out?
Is it hard?
Then I would say you're constipated.
Or does it come out easily, soft but formed?
Then that may just be your normal pattern.
Have you discussed it with your doctor?
You could also try Miralax, much more pleasant to drink than Metamucil but just as effective.0 -
I Drink the Lemon Juice from a fresh Lemon Every night and add 1 dropper Of Cayenne Tincture for my heart health and it makes the Lemon Absorb faster too opening up the system. You can use 1/4 tsp of powder in the place of the tincture. It will be spicy warm so dont add to much water chase with warm water. I also will take 2 tbsp of Aloe Vera Juice with it on the side. Helped me alot and its Natural.0

I am definately constipated lol.
Yes i spoke to my doctor and she said i could be constipated because of high level of calcium i consume. She said not to lower my calcium intake but to increase fiber intake and excercise which i did and it did not get better.0 -
I had same problem until I saw a GI doctor and got put on Citrucel and Miralax. Worked great for me, but honestly...I would go see a GI specialist if you could.0

My husband used to have more problems but began to watch his sodium intake. Once he kept that in line, things improved.0

I would try some of these suggestions and if they don't work, go back to your doctor.
You need to have normal bowel movements for good colon health.
Constipation is not normal or healthy.0 -
I have the same problem...I am 44, eat well, and exercise daily. I do have an early memory of withholding when I was in elementary school. My bowels have been sluggish forever! My GP put me on a metamucil regimen and I am in the process of scheduling a colonoscopy. The daily metamucil helps somewhat; might be worth buying a container and seeing how "it goes"... good luck!0

Thanks all for you advices.
I will try warm lemon water and magnesium first and if it doesnt get better i will try miralax or go and see a specialist.0 -
Fiber does help clean out the system. I have a friend that had this problem as well and what she realized was she was using all of the energy from her food. How much food are you consuming each day.0

20-25 mg of fiber is pretty low. I mean, that works for some people, but not most. You might try bumping it up to 25-30 a day. Even 35 if you're still having trouble. I personally aim for 30. I have my diary set to track fiber. If I find that I am ending my day with less than 30 mg, I'll take a fiber supplement. I've been taking Metamucil pills for years. But I recently discovered Fiber Gummis! It's like candy!!! But it's fiber, hee hee.0

Before i started my dieting (3 days ago) i was around 1700 cals per day.Now i am down to 1350 cals on average. My usual food consumption: FiberOne 51% cereal for breakfast, fiberOne snack bar 30% while in school and later for dinner i had lean meat (chicken/fish), brown rice/potato, and always salad or steamed veggies. For snacks other than fiberone i had an apple or small banana. I am almost never hungry cause i eat small meals every couple of hours.
If my calculations are correct on average i intake 21-27 grams of fiber and it's said that women need 24g per day.0 -
Not enough fiber in my diet caused me to plateau also. I have recently purchased fiber wells gummies and fiber one powder. I definitely see the scale moving more and frequent/ smoother movements. There are other suppliers that you can get like Metamucil like some people suggested. You can also get your fiber naturally from fruits, veggies, and nuts if you want. It seems as your doing everything else pretty well on the surface.Supplements like multivitamins, fish oil, garlic oil, biotin, and consumption of natural oils several times a day ( coconut, black seed, olive etc.) can also help. With a few adjustments to your fiber intake the scale should be moving.0

I was wondering if i was getting enough but everyone i asked said i was fine at 24g which was recomended. I will try increasin my fiber intake to 30 like you said and see if it helps.
Gonna get those yummy gummies couple people mentioned as well hehe0 -
I had the same problem with BM, but mine was due to my high intake of dairy. I cut a huge bit of dairy out and it has helped a lot! Not saying dairy is your problem. I have also found drinking atleast one cup of coffee will make you go. I need to add more fiber. The Metamucil works wonders!!! Hope you get it straightened out!

Doesn't sound like you get much fat. If you don't get enough that could also cause constipation.0 -

Everybody is different. I think 24 is average and OK for lots of people. But I know it's a bare minimum for me. It's something that pretty easy to experiment with.
I also like Metamucil Fiber + Calcium pills. Two birds with one stone!0 -
I had issues for years and did the whole prune and Metamucil thing with very limited success. What has worked amazingly for me for the past year is homemade muesli for breakfast most days - rolled oats, bran, LSA, wheat germ, coconut, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds with raisins and dried apricots and almonds.
Also, kiwifruit is amazing for getting you going.0 -
I think you are right were you need for fiber. Are your reaching the goals for your carbs, proteins and fats for the day 1300 might be low if you are working out each day.0
