Sugar in Foods

Hi All, i'm new to MFP. Was wanting to know the relevance of the Sugar List on my settings? I find since starting I can see at the end of the day my sugar list is "in the red". Even if I stay within my calorie allotment and my sugar allotment is out, will I still lose weight or will this be a hindrance?:smile::smile:

    I don't know for certain, but I would imagine its just a numbers game at a certain point. For instance, if your allotted sugar consumption was 25 grams, and you consumed 60 grams, then yes you're probably hurting your odds. As where if your Sugar consumption is set to 40 grams and you had 50 grams instead - meh, you didn't do perfect but no real harm done. Ya'know?

    Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will answer, too. You might try posting this part in the 'Health and Weight' section (I think that's what its called anyhow).

    Hey! You should take a look at some other posts (search "sugar"). I was just looking at "Fruit makes my sugar go well over" and there is TONS of info there. I was worried about my sugar levels because of the fruit and veggie amounts I eat, but since I don't have any conditions that require me to regulate my sugar, and I eat VERY little sugar from sources other than fruits and veggies, it's not all that important for me to track. I just changed my "sugar" tracker to "Iron" because this is more important for me.

    If you consume a lot of processed foods/sugary food or use granulted sugar (etc) as an additive for food/drinks, I'd consider monitoring your sugar, but if you're like me I wouldn't worry about it.

    I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you are going WAY over on your sugar. It also depends what sources your sugar is coming from. I usually go over a little bit on my sugar too, but most of it comes from fruit so I figure it's not too bad as long as I stay within my calorie allowance. I tend to find that if I allow 'empty' calorie sugary foods like cake, or some chocolate, even if it is within my calorie allowance, then I just crave those empty calories even more. If you're eating a lot of sugar, take a look at where it is coming from and see if you can switch to low sugar versions, or substitute for something else less sugary.

    I also changed my sugar track. Cholesterol is more important to me, and your sugar is just another carb, which you are already tracking. Don't worry too much.
  • Thanks guys, that was very informative. I won't stress too much as it is mainly from the 2 fruits i eat most days and didn't realise but some packet soups were a bit on the sugary side. Who would have thought?
