How do you make close friends on MFP?

One at a time. It starts with conversations on your page, and then you do private messages, you check on them when they've been sick or going through something. Next thing you know, they're doing the same for you, and you get to know them more and more. It helps when they share more of their life than just fitness, but some people never do, and you'll never know them any better.

    And then the spooning begins.
You're the back spoon. You'll thank me.

Sometimes people just start sending private messages. They may see something that clicks with them, and it starts a conversation and you like the conversations and you keep going.

Its really like starting any new friendships.

I'm always up for meeting new people and messaging with people

Yup - you said it Nancy! I've made some very dear friends here - has made a HUGE difference in my journey! Couldn't do it without them!

    Be willing to listen
    Be willing to trust
    Be willing to be vulnerable
    Be willing to be disappointed
Be willing to laugh at yourself

Master those and you will have virtually unlimited meaningful relationships, online and in real life.

    Love this <3

I would think in the same way you meet ppl, outside of MFP; you get to knw one another. It's up to the individuals if they wnt to pursue a deeper relationship, outside of MFP, or not.

I've met a gr8t circle of 'buddies' on this site. I've not yet met any "face-to-face" but I do chat on and off with some via inbox. I think the individuals determine how "close" they actually want to get.

My mind set is if it doesn't go beyond MFP, I still have a gr8t circle of buddies who make this journey so easy :):):)

It's been said before, but sending pictures of your boobs never hurts.

And just like in real life, sometimes you click with people and sometimes you don't. I have exchanged great PMs with people and that was it. And others results in face to face meetups or really great online relationships.

In the end it comes down to, you have to BE a good friend to cultivate one. Cheesy, but nonetheless true.

    Stalking sometimes works too

    Stealing this pic. Fabulous.

I stalk them before sending out a FR to make sure I like their personality. Then, they have to send me junk shots and take a psych eval to make sure they're crazy, not unstable.

But really, I do befriended people that make awesome comments and I think we'll get along. I do chat a lot with a few behind the scenes.

I piss excellence. People like that sort of thing.

I'm really not into water sports, but for you I might make an exception.

LOVE the kidnap method.. damn wish I thought'd of that at the start

Only suggestion I have otherwise is to join a group (or start your own) of people with the same goals and committment you have... and perhaps in the same age range too. While I have friends of all ages (and agree totally with whoever said if the comments are hysterical I'm likely to send a friend request just because we have a similar warped sense of humour) but while I get and give support to all my friends, the friends within my group have become those closest to me, I think because we are all of the same age range, and from having the same life experiences at this stage in our lives, we can commiserate and or laugh with each other through some of the tough times and understand exactly what each of us might be going thru.. cause someone's already gone thru it.. as well becase we've all been struggling for many years, (ok.. decades... :embarassed: ) it helps (for me anyway) to have those who can relate around me - I'm able to share more with them. Plus everyone there is committed to changing and supporting each other, and seeing the great success everyone in our group is having also helps keep me going and inspires me on bad days.. anyway, just my two cents.. and they're Canadian pennies.. so ya know... might only be worth a cent and a half :drinker:

oh.. and bacon.. bacon will always hook em!
