I sprained my ankle pretty badly and I'm slow gaining mobility into it. I have been continuing to work out, but it's all been centralized to upper body work outs.I want to get back into the habit of lower body lifting, so what are some good exercises I can do while I gradually strengthen my ankle?

Well until you completely heal and put some weight on it you are most likely stuck with machines like Leg extension, hamstring curl, abductor/aductor. I know you asked for compound, but until you can safely put some stress on your ankle I'd avoid leg presses, squats and deads. Now if you can put weight on it and it's strictly mobility you are struggling with then lighter weight squats would get the job done. Even air squats would be good.

I'd avoid anything dealing with calves until completely healed.

I can bear weight (like my body weight and I can walk, but it hurts a little). I can do air squats? I assume that is just squating without weights. And my left calf is like jelly )':
