I LOST 100 POUNDS

I wantched this show on fit TV last night and it was a little scary for me. 2 of the people who lost over 100 pounds were women and they showed up all the excess skin they had. One was a runner in fabulas condition and her stomach still never went away. The other one needed a full body reduction of skin which was like 20K.
The one thing I am really worried about is excess skin since I have a lot of weight to lose. Does anyone have this problem or concern?

I have the same problem or concern. But i keep trying to tell myself that the health benefits far outweigh any aesthetic concerns for the moment. I guess I'm trying to say that I feel like I will cross that bridge when I finally get to it.0

I have a pouch on my lower abdomen. I'm going to get a tummy tuck once I'm down to my ideal weight. I think I can get it done on the NHS here in the UK because I lost so much weight...0

I remember catching the beginning of extreme makeover where a guy was on there and lost a ton of weight and still had a bunch of excess skin. I think if you lose the weight too quickly, your body can't reduce the size of your skin fast enough to keep up, but this is me just guessing. I lost 70 lbs in 7 months and didn't have any extra skin, though I didn't quite get rid of all the belly fat.0

I was worried about that at first. But I don't have that problem. I am losing slowly and doing resistance training and my skin is going back in place. I have been overweight all my life and I was concerned about the flab. Many people don't have the money for those type of operations. I am also using this great product that is fixing my skin, helping with my joints, and is actually growing my hair thicker on the top where I was losing it.
I love losing weight now!:flowerforyou:0 -

I also am thinking first things first, get the weight off then cross the excess bridge when i get there. I don't know for sure but i have heard if you do toning exercises while losing the excess skin is not as big of a problem. I am doing the toning that is recommended and will see whats up when i get to my goal weight. I personally think i can deal with the excess skin if i have to.0 -
I started to get concerned.. I quickly squashed that tho. I would rather have all this extra skin than all the extra fat any day.. Yes.. I do get out of the shower and grab that skin and think about how great it would be to just get it removed, but I'm not gonna stop losing weight so it doesn't get any worse.. and I look good with clothes on..
Nope.. I'm satisfied... I am way more comfortable with the extra skin than all the extra fat I was lugging around with..
Good luck on your journey, and don't let extra skin get in the way of your fitness goals.. You just keep going.0 -
Check out this post on the board. "How to Avoid Loose Skin during Weight Loss"
I too was researching this as i have alot of weight to lose and am over 40 which effects how my skin my react to the weight loss. I would rather have excess skin than excess fat so I guess it is a trade off and you never know, it might tighten up more than I expect.0 -

I think some people are genetically blessed as well. Like some mothers never get stretch marks but others are riddled with them.
It's something I worry about but not massively. I don't think I'd ever have surgery - too scared. I've lost over 50lbs and have another 30 to go.
After 2 pregnancies and a ton of weight, my body's not what it used to be, but the feeling I get from being able to run for a bus or play with my kids over-rides any concerns over skin!0 -
My friend has gastric bypass and her doctor told her off the record that once she gets down to the weight she needs to be go to the doctor and complain of rashes underneath the excess skin and after enough appointments for rashes then her insurance would pay to have the tummy tuck and whatever else skin that needs to be reviewed.0

My docs have informed me of the same.0 -

What is the product? I want some!0 -
I saw a glimpse of that show last night and turned if off. I also remember Kate Plus 8 getting her tummy tuck. It is more than I can think about right now. I had a small tummy tuck 2 years ago when I had my hysterectomy (my Ob specializes in that yeah me, but didn't specialize in tucking up my bladder..boo). I had twins that were huge 15 yrs ago...8 lbs and 7.9 lbs...needless to say I had some extra skin. I am so glad it is gone and if I have to go back for some more work then I'll definitely do it!!0

I've lost 70lbs so far and my skin seems to be going back well enough. I know I will have stomach flab though due to my previous 2 c sections and I may want a tummy tuck depending on how bad it is and I will definitely need a boob lift when I get to goal.......the only part I'm worried about really though is my arms. 10 years ago I got thin and everything bounced back perfectly but this time around after 2 kids and being 80lbs heavier to start than I was a decade ago stuff is moving a lot slower.
Like other posters have said though I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.0 -

But to each his own we all have our thoughts on this subject. My reason for is health issue and along with that will most likely come better self esteem and a boost in confidence in my body image.0 -
When I met with one of the personal trainers at our gym & expressed my concern over this issue, he said the biggest reason for excess skin is weight loss that happens too quickly ~ just one of the MANY reasons fad/quick-fix diets aren't good for us. He continued to say that our skin is constantly regenerating, and if we lose in a slow, realistic way, the chances of having less loose skin is much higher.
I've lost 29 pounds so far & the shrinkage has been remarkable ~ but I'm definitely on the long-term, slow track (I've been doing this for 6 months). I will always have stretch marks, and I may end up with some kind of little tummy pooch, but I'm trying to follow the advice I've been given so I can end up with the best results possible. I've had too many regrets in regards to fitness & nutrition ~ I don't want any more. :happy:0 -

Lot of factors involved0 -

My thoughts on this "afraid of the excess skin" thing, WORRY ABOUT IT WHEN YOU REACH YOUR GOAL!!!!. Everyone is different, if you watched all of that show all 4 lost 100 or more pounds and 50% of them needed tummy tucks. If all you took away was the OMG factor of the tummy tucks then in my opinion you were focusing on the wrong part.
Your goal right now should be to lose the weight and get healthy so you can feel great, all of those women looked and felt healthy. If you lose it at the rate of 1-2 lbs a week you may reduce the chances of the extra skin. Rapid weight loss is the number one contributor to excess skin, the skin needs a chance to bounce back and any good surgeon won't touch you until you have maintained your current weight for at least one full year and women over 35 should give it two full years before considering an expensive tummy tuck.
Focus on the next 10 pounds now and like I said don't worry about the what if's until you are actually at your goal weight, you might find you don't have anything to worry about at all, like the woman that lost it all and without any surgeries is becoming a natural body builder.0 -
Not everyone will have the same result with loose skin because it depends on your age and elasticity. I have concerns about how flabby I will be but I have decided it is better to be flabby on the outside then unhealthy on the inside. If it is horrible I will try and find a way to fix the problem with surgery. Right now my focus is on health and vanity will probably kick in later.0

I have lost a little over 100 lbs and have about 80 lbs to go. I have not had a problem with excess skin so far (knock on wood) but I'm sure I will. This is an issue I talked over with several doctors at length and my conclusion is that I need to wait at least two years after achieving my goal weight before my body will recover from the weight loss. I've also figured out that everyone's body is different and just because one person has excess skin issues doesn't mean I will. There are so many contributing factors, age, the amount of time you've been overweight, the environment, the list goes on and on. In my opinion, as many others have already stated, the health benefits far outweigh my vanity and if I end up with excess skin so be it, at least I'll look good in my clothes, oh and at least I will be alive.0

I have lost 95 lbs and I have some skin around my stomach and upper thighs that is really gross, but I can hide it in my clothes and I am not that worried about it. I walked around with 95 more lbs, I can walk around with a bit of gross saggy skin and feel great!!0
