Heart Rate while on treadmill

Ok got a question I also will ask my dr. soon. I have noticed while on the treadmill if I raise the incline to 4 or above my heart rate goes down and not up. I have checked and rechecked this several times and different days. It always happens. I am walking very slowly at about 1. 5 ... I don't get light headed or anything.
If I walk normally on 1 incline and up to 3 speed my heart rate goes up.
Is this decline while inclined a symptom of something? I am on high blood meds but have been steady for months.

Thanks in advance for any comments/ help.

Wow, I have absolutely no idea. Are you going much slower when you put it on an incline? Because then it wouldn't really be a strain on your heart so much as your legs.

I think it is because you are slowing down the pace by half so you must be slowing enough to cause your heart rate to drop. When you are walking faster it is causing it to go up, I bet if you could keep up that fast pace with the incline your heart would go much faster. Just a thought, I dont think it is a symptom of anything
  • I walk slower on incline but my heart rate should not drop to 85 if right before I was reading 150 from the speed 3 incline 1 walk.
Like I said I tried this several times and for several days. It always went way down.
I know the heart rate monitors on these are not always accurate.

when you slow the speed down you are lessenig the load on your body and your heart rate would drop
  • Hve you tried different heart rate monitors? I know the ones I used to use that were built into the machine gave me erratic readings such as the ones youa re saying. I would get your heart rate up to about 140 or so then stop real quick and take your pulse the good old fashioned way with your hand on your corotid artery in your neck, count the beats for 20 seconds then multiply x3. if it is like 10 or 20 beats slower than it was, that is normal because u stopped but in my opinion it shouldnt be going from 150 to 85 like that so quickly it takes time to do that, if you try this and catch it really doing this then I would call a dr.

You are slowing down too much and therefore your heart rate drops since it thinks you are almost stopping.. which seems like you are at 1.5 speed. Yes, increasing the incline should increase your heart rate if you keep the same speed, but given that you are changing both factors in your equation, then your heart rate drops.
Try increasing your incline to 4% as you already do and keep the same speed.. If you don't notice an increase in HR, then there must be a problem.
  • That sounds like a good idea. Will do that soon.
