I always have 40g (dry weight). Just enough for me, though when I first started weighing out my portions I was shocked at how little that sesmed. Now I'm more shocked at the massive portions I used to have.

I used to have 100g but now have 75 g UNLESS I'm just having pasta and sauce, when I might have 100g (or if I'm really hungry and have the calories to spare  )

I'm having 70g (dry weight) of wholewheat pasta/spaghetti with a meat ragu (with loads of blended veg to bulk it up).

There is no magic number. It depends on your macro and calorie goals and any medical conditions. Also if you have any bread with the meal, what's in the sauce etc. So just target the meal to your own situation.

I eat about 5 oz cooked, 2 oz not cooked. That was the serving size (I believe) on my pasta box. Food scales are a life saver!

I agree I absolutely love my food scales. They've helped me so much. In the past i'd just throw anything on my plate and not think about how much I was actually having. I measure pretty much everything now!

I cook about 8 ounces dry for my family of four, so 2 ounces (dry) apiece.

Consider spaghetti squash. It's a fantastic substitute for pasta and *very* low cal.

I eat brown Soba noodles (rice) cooked I think a cup has 130 calories or something and they taste awesome, gluten free!

or I just eat whole wheat - I don't care... whatever makes me full :)

I usually eat about 80-100 g per serving for an evening meal. But on occasion I may have more if it's something I really love. Generally I still have pretty large portions for dinner, but just put more sauce and less pasta to control calories.

For lunch I usually eatleftovers, but will have a smaller serving.

I completely and whole heatedly disagree...

I like spaghetti squash as it's own thing...I do not find it an acceptable substitute for pasta. There is no substitute for pasta, and there doesn't need to be. Pasta is not the debil...

Yeah, spaghetti squash is crazy low calorie for something so filling. I sometimes find it hard to get enough calories when I eat it.

If I'm in the mood for pasta it doesn't always satisfy, but many times it's really the sauce I want more than the pasta and this is a great substitute in those instances. Plus, it's a really tasty vegetable on it's own. It works really well as a salad too (made just like a pasta salad).

    Edit: typo

I'm not saying pasta is a terrible thing. But for many people who enjoy it and are trying to lose weight, the caloric content is just too much. I was offering an alternative. I'm sorry if this is unaccaptable to you, but please consider that my suggestion might be helpful to someone else.

When I went to WW so many, many years ago, you were only allowed 1/2 cup of cooked pasta. It may be different than that now. But if you add lots of veggies to your pasta, that 1/2 cup will go a long, long way. Just say'n.

As a main? Do not starve yourself. Go whole wheat and use the serving as indicated on the box (2oz dry, or 55-60g). Measure it dry, not cooked, as the pasta takes on a considerable amount of water.

    Enjoy!

Unfortunately, I try not to eat pasta for dinner ever. Your main meal should be lunch, not dinner. I am trying to stay away from pasta completely, and it has really helped slim down my belly. Every now and again, I will eat pasta, but it's getting to be more of a special occasion dish than a regular everyday type thing.

Why should my main meal be lunch?

I never said I was having it regularly or everyday. I rarely eat pasta (which is why I asked how much to have) I usually have something like chicken and vegetables, but my calorie content was really low and I would have been 'under eating' so I thought pasta would be the best option and it was a nice change. I'm not going to deprive myself of any food. Everything in moderation is fine.

I went with the 100g serving suggestion on the packet and it was WAY too much. I only ate half of it so next time I think i'll go for 50g. I didn't have any creamy sauce or anything like that, I used half a tin of chopped tomatoes which some herbs, chopped onion and peppers.

    Thanks for the help everyone!

Depending on what I'm serving with it I have 45-65g dried weight.
