OP, I am so sad for you!! I hope you grow out of your allergy. It's possible, I know many who have outgrown allergies to other fruits.0 -

I had hoped so, too. I tried it again a few weeks ago (almost a year out from cutting out of my diet) and it was a bust. Being a nursing student, I know what a stupid move that was. I had Benadryl and an epipen nearby just in case and luckily didn't need either. I've never had an anaphylactic reaction to it, but I know with each exposure to an allergen, your reaction gets worse. DO NOT DO THAT if you have a food allergy. I will not be tempting fate again.0 -
my boyfriends mom made a guacamole like dip out of peas.
green pea guacamole
3 cups green peas, fresh or frozen
1 cup red onion
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp fresh ground pepper
1/8 tsp cayenne
steam peas if fresh, if frozen then defrost. puree with red onion, lemon juice, garlic, cumin and black pepper. add cayenne and salt to taste.
not sure exactly how many it serves, but it's really good. and you don't have to worry about the browning that happens with avocados
eta: can prolly put a little salsa or diced tomatos in, cilantro too!0 -
You can develop allergies and sensativites over time. I wasn't lactose intolerant until about 2 years ago and over the past 5 I've developed several other allergies. Just sayin.

Avocado-Free Guacamole
(Makes about 1 and 3/4 cups)
Categorized here: My Non-Dessert Recipes.
■8 oz asparagus (34-36 skinny spears, ends trimmed)
■1 cup plus 2 tablespoons peas (I used 5 oz frozen, thawed)
■2 tablespoons mayo-type spread (such as Veganaise or Nayonaise)
■Juice of 1/2 a lime
■1 1/2 tsp minced garlic
■1/2 tsp cumin
■1/8 tsp salt
■2 tablespoons diced red onion
■optional: 2 teaspoons dry cilantro
■optional: sweetener if desired
Steam the asparagus just until soft, then combine all ingredients (except onion) and blend in a food processor until very smooth. Stir in onion (you can omit if desired). Fridge until cold. (Or you can steam the asparagus in advance and chill them, so your dip will be cold after blending.)0 -

Thanks for posting! Definitely worth a try! :flowerforyou:your allergies change. i am no longer allergic to things that i was when i was in middle school, and have newer allergies that i never had when i was growing up.
This is true with allergies that develop in childhood. Allergies that develop in adulthood, however, tend to be there for the long-haul and tend to worsen with exposure. I'm not even entirely sure this is an allergy. The symptoms for avocado allergy and sensitivity are so similar, and allergy tests can come back as false negatives. I'm just going with "I can't eat that" regardless of the reason behind it, because worst case scenario, it is an allergy and could land me in the ED. No fun there! And this is what my allergist said to do, so I'm being a good patient and following his advice (now).0 -

You mean the "eda-mocka-mole"? If it had tahini, yeah. It was delicious. But nothing like guac.0 -
