Hi everyone, this is the first time I'm posting (scary) anyway I go to the gym 3x a week but when I leave I am STARVING, even after drinking 3 glasses of water (in my workout cup),. So my question is what do you eat after an hour workout? or do I need to work through it? I'm not sure I could not eat to be honest

Definitely Protein....Shakes or bars if you are in a hurry. If you are going home after the gym, make a meal. Lean meats (if you eat meat) whole grains and fruit.. I go to the gym before my family wakes up in the morning. Just as I get home they are waking up.. I cook eggs and turkey sausage everyday and then switch up the carbohydrate source day to day.. Eat.. Eat well.. don't starve yourself. Good luck0

don't protein shakes have a lot of calories?? Sometimes I can come home and cook but most of the time I'm in a hurry to get somewhere else.0

make sure you are eating enough throughout the day. When you eat the protein is not as important as making sure you get the amount needed to reach your goal in throughout the day.
If you are hungry, eat. Sometimes I eat right after, sometimes I don't. I make sure my food after is protein rich but most of my meals are protein rich anyway0 -

I keep a few snacks in my car at all times:
ostrim jerkey snacks
life lift bar
victory bar by oh yeah!
dry no salt almonds
I always have a container of already made tuna with me and if i'm hungry before gym i eat it or after i eat it.0 -
Your body needs fuel immediately following a workout to help in the recovery process. This is especially true if you did strenuous exercise or resistance training.
I would definitely recommend having at least a small snack in your bag to eat right away. I personally love a protein bar or protein shake. But an apple with peanut butter would be great too.0 -
Make a smoothie before you go and put it in a thermos or an insulated travel mug to keep it cold. That way you can make it as low-cal as you like. I usually make something with a banana, soymilk, frozen fruit, and yogurt or tofu or protein powder. You can obviously use whatever combinations you want.0

Protein smoothie - blended with frozen blueberries and 2% dairy milk - and oatmeal made with chocolate PB2 and almond milk.
If it's a particular long workout, or if I know that I'll be working through to a late lunch, I throw some coconut oil into the smoothie for longer satiety.
Oh, and I have a banana before my workout. I'm a breakfast kinda person.0 -

Good idea! I'm taking this. Mine! Miiine!0 -
Protein shake.
Protein shakes have as many calories as you want to put in them. You can find some low calorie ones that have 100 cal per serving.0 -
Two scoops of whey mixed with water, followed by an apple.0

depending on what time of the day I workout, but assuming I'm going to the gym after work, I usually go home and make dinner (i.e. lean protein and green veggie or sweet potatoes). If I workout in the morning I usually do oatmeal with chia seeds and a protein shake.
Most whey protein mixes have around 120-140 calories per scoop, but have around 20-28g protein (depending on brand). If you mix with water, there are no additional calories from what you mix with. I use unsweetened almond milk (about 1 cup, so 30 additional calories). This will keep me full and keep me going!
When looking at food, try to eat as clean as you can, the less garbage you put in, the more "use" you get out of your calories. Also, I don't eat 3 traditional meals, I eat around 5-6 meals per day spread out throughout the day; fits my lifestyle and has seemed to work well for my weight loss/fitness goals so far--I started this about 3 weeks ago, along with a 6x/week workout schedule and I'm down about 8lbs.0 -
Depending on the brand, a cup of protein shake usually has 100-140 cals. Mine has 130, which is definitely less than whatever full meal I eat.0

if you're hungry, eat whatever you want, as long as it fits into your meal plan. i have a humongous breakfast after my morning workout. you can have your lunch or dinner or snack or shake or whatever.
walking around starving for hours is a great way to blow your daily food plan by going buck wild at your next meal.0 -
An apple or other sugary fruit on the way home from the gym and a protein shake within 30-60 min of your workout. You could skip the apple to cut 100 calories, but if you pushed yourself hard in the gym, the body could use the simple sugars to replenish. An hour or so after your shake, try to get some lean protein in like chicken, fish, etc.0

really any of the following:
lean meats
vegetables
fruits
protein/snack/meal bars
protein shakes
nuts preferably almonds (small amounts)
be sure to drink water0 -
After anything strenuous, I love fast food. Grilled chicken sandwich from McD's or a sub from Subway.
I lift in the evening and have a normal dinner after that.
In other words, eat whatever you like to eat that satisfies you and fits your goals for the day.0 -
a hardboiled egg would even help curb the starvation. Although you might get shanked if you open a stinky egg in a gym0

If I'm working out lunchtime, I eat lunch after working out.
If I work out before dinner, I eat dinner after working out.
If I work out after dinner, I eat dessert after working out.
To be fair, my desserts are heavy protein.
Not sure why you wouldn't eat after working out though. Not even broscience advocates that.0 -
My go to is a glass of 1% Chocolate Milk and a 1/2 cup of Almonds..... I also have ON Chocolate Protein shakes made with the milk frozen and I add peanut butter in the VitaMix Blender and turns out just like a milkshake.... Best of Luck....0

I always eat after a workout(usually within 30 minutes of exercising) My fave go to snack is apple slices with a tablespoon of almond butter. Some other snacks I have are:
1/4 cup Cottage Cheese with raspberries, strawberries and blueberries
100 Gram cup of Greek Yogurt with mixed berries and granola
Grapes
Carrot and Cucumber Slices with Hummus
Apricot, Banana and Strawberry Skewers(homemade)
A nuts and seeds mix(Almonds, cashews, walnuts, raisons and cranberries) Self mixed and unsalted.0
