Has anyone given up bread pasta and potatoes?

At the moment I've been limiting what bread, pasta and potatoes I eat.
Most of the time I rarely eat bread anyway . I usually have some form of either pasta or potatoes for dinner with meat and veg. Although it'a white pasta and white potatoes.
During the day I'd usually have porridge for breakfast then like oatcakes with salmon and snack on nature valley bars and fruit.
I haven't done too badly but maybe every 2/3 weeks I may lose some . I'm still really slow at the weight loss although I've only been gym twice I need to go 3 times or more .
And I do proper full body workouts weights and cardio.
Should I cut out bread/pasta and potatoes completely? or isit maybe that I'm eating white pasta and white potatoes thats the problem?
I was speaking to my trainer and he said I should give up bread , pasta and potatoes and that I could switch to sweet potatoes.
Anyone that has given up bread and pasta and potatoes isit hard to stick with?

I've given up pasta, but not potatoes. I reduce my intake of potatoes or starcharchy foods due to insulin resistance, and i find myself not as hungry afterwards.
Personally, it just wasn't worth 50 minutes of running to burn off a bowl of -delicious- pasta (GOD. i want some right now) but if its something you enjoy, i recommend just reducing slowly by 25% then 50% for a food item you really like.0 -
It's really up to you. I rarely eat potatoes and rice while I eat no bread or pasta at all. This hasn't been very difficult for me as long as I am eating plenty of veggies, fruits, meat and fats.
I tended to want to eat pasta and bread just because it was available, to dip in or mix with other foods, and because it was easy. Not having it around, finding alternatives for specific cravings, and making other food more available went a long way toward leaving these foods out almost altogether.
I craved fruit more when I first quit, but I feel like I am at a good balance now. I ate a lot of fruit today though; that isn't my typical fruit intake. : )0 -
Nope I practice portion control...so I can eat what I want....just not the whole pot of what I want.0

I am a bread LOVE, but my body for some reason doesn't process carbs very well, It seems like I can't lose weight unless I go high protein, low carb. Must be the PCOS.
I did find out something completely AMAZING. It is a high protein bread called P28. I usually have a piece of it a day. 14G's of protein and 130 calories in 1 slice! It also tastes similar to raisin bread to me, just a hint of sweet. It has helped me tremendously with those bread cravings.0 -
It's not necessary. And just plain wrong. I will never give up bread, pasta, and potatoes. They are delicious and have no effect or impact on weight loss unless you're eating enough of them to put you into a caloric surplus.
Just maintain a calorie deficit and exercise, you will lose weight. Slow and steady is fine. And stop listening to your trainer when it comes to nutrition advice.0 -
I haven't given up anything at all... but I do eat less of all those things. I just find I prefer to spend my calories on foods that keep me full longer.
I found a great low-cal pasta called Fiber Gourmet (130 cals vs. 180-210 in regular), it's pretty tasty and as the name implies, has a heap of fiber... which pretty much ensures you aren't going to want to exceed a serving0 -
I've never liked pasta much, so it wasn't that hard for me to cut it out (I'll eat it on occasion). I also switched to sweet potatoes, but only because I love them. White potatoes are actually really good for making you feel full, so they're not necessarily the enemy. Bread is harder for me. I love it in all shapes and forms. I do try and limit how much I eat, but as previous posters have said, why make yourself miserable if you love them? Simply cut back on servings.0

I eat potatoes and pasta nearly everyday and still lose weigh at a steady pace. As another chick said, they don't affect weigh loss at all. Just remember to have portion control and you will be fine.0

White rice and pasta are stripped of antioxidants and other awesome goodies for your body. Cut them out. But if you're a pasta/rice fiend like me, go for a single portion of whole grain/brown rice and whole grain pasta. Just as good! They both fool my super picky fiancee!0

Its up to you. I have cut back on bread/pasta as I needed to learn what a serve is, and I find bread really upsets my tummy.
I don't think its made much of a difference to weight loss, but given that I'm upping protein + vegetables, I'm full faster.0 -

for the most part I don't eat them because I do not like them lol a little weirdo I know. I do eat sweet potatoes, but really dislike pasta especially.0

I have given up rice, all pasta's, all breads... I just can't seem to let go of the potatoes...
I did it because they literally put me to sleep. They always have, even when I was young. The rice and breads weren't much of an issue. Pasta was a bit more of a challenge because I love all kinds of pasta's... But like I said, I still will go for potatoes every time.0 -

I have not done this, and would never, unless I developed a medical problem that required it. Yes, I think it would be hard to stick with, especially since you wrote that you usually eat one or the other for dinner every day. I'd think you should be able to just have less of them, cutting back to your calorie goal, and be fine. Personally, I'd much rather have pasta at dinner than a Nature's Valley bar as a snack, but that's cause I don't like those.0

I haven't given them up, but I rarely eat them and I don't miss them when I don't have them. I fill up on fruits and veggies and the main protein dish of the meal.0

I hardly eat pasta or rice anyway, it can sometimes make me feel like my tummy is bloated and full
I limit bread, it seems to drain my energy a bit. And I was only have 2 slices a day max.
Potatoes I have a few times a week, yum spuds !0 -
I have mostly set aside potatoes, pasta and bread. I use my fork now, instead of using bread as a handle or food, but I do have the occasional soft pretzel or pizza.
I believe if I say NEVER, I will crash and burn. But I am always honest and journal it.0 -

Bread and pasta are WRONG for people with gluten intolerance, allergies or sensitivity. I'm one of those people who prefers NOT to eat them, because several long standing health issues went away when I removed gluten from my diet.
I can live without bread and pasta, but WILL have some if I really want it. I just tend to turn my nose up at all baked goods, bread and pasta because I don't crave them and I get really bloated if I eat too much of it.0
